How many other people besides myself are ecstatic over this?

Yes, that is very good news. It should not only have an effect on unwanted pregnancies but it's probably one of the best things ever to happen for rape victims.

New Plan:

1. Slip something into her drink
2. Do the nasty
3. Slip a Plan B into her drink

Quite the gentleman, aren't I?

I am for this pill. My only concern is people that might not take the other precautions to prevent STDs. Sure, everyone has a 'heat of the moment' time, but I would still want them to make sure that they are protected from other things besides pregnacy. I just don't want people to become blasé because they know there's an out to the pregnancy part. (I guess I'm thinking mainly teenagers and protection here since I'm the mother of a teenager) Funny how birth control is almost always on the woman's shoulders. Still, even with my worries, I think this is a good thing.

From the male point of view... such a wonderful alternative to condoms. I'll even buy some myself to keep on hand.

I will accept that statement if it is from a married male or one in a permanent relationship. Otherwise, what I said about keeping oneself safe from STD's still stands.

20-30 bucks for 1 use. Not exactly an alternative to condoms.

True enough, Vesi. It won't stop STD's. AIDS is pretty rare amongst heterosexuals, and really, its pretty easy to pick out the skanks. While not a fool proof method, a little discussionion before hand can help.

I see, and feel, there is a tremendous difference. In this day and age you could probably split the cost with your partner.

While I have no statistics to back this up (just cause I don't feel like doing it right now), AIDS is not discriminatory. I think you might be surprised how many straight people do have HIV/AIDS. (not to mention the children that get it through no fault of their own) This disease is not limited to the gay community. (I really thought people were more enlightened about this by now) Also, there are tons of other STDs that can be transmitted by not using condoms.

Also, being selective in a partner is wise. However, I don't think I would just 'take someone's word' they were healthy all for a one night stand. People lie. Commited relationships are different. Use those condoms for the one night stands! If they turn into long term relationships then you have a bit more to discuss with them.

Trust me, I'm no angel. I am very thankful that I was lucky enough to make it through my single life without any real problems.

As for labeling women that enjoy sex as 'skanks' you are basically labeling yourself. No one should be labeled something just because they like sex.

Woah, back up... I do not consider "women who like sex" skanks. What woman dosen't? What I meant by that was its pretty easy to tell who is a sleep around slut and who isn't. Honestly, I think women have more to fear about STDs than men.

Re-check your statistics. AIDS is rare amongst heteros in the United States. If I were in Africa, I'd wear a urathane body suit.

I can see an increase in the spread of STDs looking on the horizon if that attitude becomes more prevalent due to this pill.

Shit, there's a ton of STDs out there and AIDS is just one of them. Syphilis is on the rise. I'm pretty sure I've heard Hepatitis C is on the rise. HPV is on the rise.

And it's entirely possible you don't know you have it while spreading it. Condoms are just smart. Pregnancy is the least of your worries.

Pregnancy is the least of your worries? Raven, you need condoms more than I do. But I won't hold that against you.

No offense, but this is one of the most stupid things I've heard on these boards. You sound like the guy on the Phys-Ed tape who is playing the "It's a gay thing" or "You can tell by the look" role.

I don't think this pill was designed so people could go bang as much as they want without condoms. If you think just because someone is heterosexual, they don't have any STDs, you deserve to catch a few.

Here's something I read that I found interesting. Up to 75% of people infected with chlamydia are symptom-free. I think your picking out the skanks method has a good chance of failing there. Not to mention 90% of people with herpes don't know they have it.

OMG this is so MURDER. Its still a life from the moment of conception.

Cat

*Edited to add you can't tell me that people arent going to take this after conception because whos going to pay 30 bucks for a "chance" they might be pregnant.

I'm of the opinion that it's my body, my choice, but I don't really argue with anyone about it. Both sides have good points, I just think the law shouldn't have anything to say about it, personally. If you don't think abortion (or even the day-after pill) is right, then don't have one or use it... and teach your children not to put themselves in that position.

Honestly, preaching or arguing about it is really pointless. It just makes people mad.

Edited to add: This is just something I'm saying, I don't think anyone's preaching or wtfever.

I'm personally Pro-Life but was never really a 'life begins at conception.' I'm glad this thing is on sale now..

Two people were arguing over AIDS and whether it's mostly homo's who have it.. Someone said that is a lie. I looked it up real quick, these are some stats I found.

----
Among male adults/adolescents reported with AIDS in 1995, male-to-male sexual contact accounted for the largest proportion of cases, (51%), followed by intravenous drug use, (24%).

Among men ages 20 to 24, male-to-male sexual contact and/or injecting drug use accounted for 76% of AIDS cases and 63% of HIV infection cases reported in 1995

Heterosexual contact accounted for only 5% of reported AIDS cases among male adults/adolescents in 1995.

Look up the stats for females.

It's less likely (but still likely) for a male to contract the HIV virus from unprotected sex with a female, as compared to a female contracting it from a male.

Think about it this way... if you're receiving a deposit, your risk goes way up.

It has very little to do with sexual orientation.

Hulkein

Yeah, I personally don't agree with having sex unprotected with someone you don't know well, I just know it's somewhat hard for a male to get it from having sex with a female.. Vice versa is a whole different story.

Precisely why abortion will never be outlawed.
