It depends on the installation disk you're using.

I've used borrowed xp home disks before using my own license just fine.. just never attempted on a pro version.

Well, again, it's disk-dependent. You have to use a retail key with a retail disk, Dell is always retardedly unique, and OEM uses OEM. I have a million keys that I know are valid, but matching them to the right disk is a pain in the ass.

Apparently the key I used to install is EDITED!, according to a text file I found.
