So Prince Harry has apparently been in Afghanistan for the last ten weeks, fighting the Taleban with his unit. He is in the Army, you see.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/7269743.stm
Because of the obvious security implications, there was a media blackout, so that the Taleban that read the Sun didnt get wind of this and go after the ginger twat. The happy by-product is that we didnt have to listen to the ins and outs of what Harry had for breakfast, when was the last time the poncy little fuck had a wash and what was discovered in his morning shit.
But no, it was too fucking good to last. Drudge posted it this morning, so the media embargo has been lifted and we have to listen to fucking boring shit about that scrawny ginger tosser during every fucking news bulletin.
Fuck Drudge.

I'm pretty sure my problem with was the media who are now going to bombard my senses with "Prince Harry...." for the next few weeks.
Fair play to him for going to Afghanistan. He could have opted out and did ask to go do the job he is trained and paid to do. Big fucking deal. How is that any more memorable or newsworthy than anyone going to war? It isn't but for the insane obsession that people/the media have for the Royal Family.
For people saying he is in more danger because of who he is, how the fuck can he be in any more danger? They are being shot at and blown up. How much more dangerous can you get?

They are specifically targeting British (and American) soldiers. They are killing them too. That's as dangerous as it gets. Fair play to him for putting his money where his mouth is, but he deserves no more or no less accolades for doing so than any other soldier in any war zone.
As for specifically targeting him, when he has his combat gear on, he looks pretty much the same as any other squaddie with combat gear on.
Regardless, it still doesnt interest me enough to bombard me with it every time I turn my radio/television on.

Yes. However, there are different levels of being in danger.
I am in less danger sitting in the green zone, than I am conducting combat operations in Sadr city.

Officers and VIP's are at greater risk because they are being sought after and targeted specifically.
This could be why officers in other wars would sometimes go without insignia and have "no salute" policies. But, gee, they were in a war what's the point? The point is, their survival was improved if the enemy didn't realize they were an important target.
Really, I'm betting the RAF has some excellent military history classes available (for a reasonable commitment).

I agree, I think it's a shitty catch-22 situation, he isn't exactly "helping" over there, I would imagine he's actually a hinderance (no matter how good a soldier he is) because he's putting other soldiers in harms way, and taking there focus off mission.
I hate to use a movie parallel but it's a lot like "saving private ryan", (yay tom hanks again!) they're "elevating" the value of a single soldiers life above other soldiers, being a VIP they know he has to be protected from capture (or death, due to homeland support), the catch is he can't not go or he looks like a pussy.

I'm not a fan of the Royal Family. They rate up there with Politicians, for me, in the main. Harry has gone beyond my expectations of the leeches from the Royal Family, to be honest. At least he has put himself on the line for the job he puts his name to. Would be kinda nice for the parasitic members of his extended family to come anywhere near as close in order to justify the fact that my taxes pay for their champers.

How do you not understand what I mean? He can be the best soldier in the army and he's still putting undue risk/strain on his fellow soldiers, regardless of if it hit the fan or not.
Do you think that his presence was not factored into his units assignments? Do you think that his fellow soldiers felt safer knowing he was there (that feeling of safety is important too, regardless of if they were).
I don't care what he physically did over there, his presence had to have caused more harm.
