Could summon explain how ranged defense works, and how holding a weapon you are trained for lowers your defense as opposed to holding nothing or a wand, or even a random item.
With a dagger in my hand, fully 1x for my level, dagger is 4x:
A Grimswarm orc scout fires a wooden heavy crossbow bolt at you!
AS: +298 vs DS: +271 with AvD: +35 + d100 roll: +62 = +124
With an empty hand:
A Grimswarm orc scout fires a wooden heavy crossbow bolt at you!
AS: +298 vs DS: +310 with AvD: +35 + d100 roll: +61 = +84
Both are with a unconverted targe. I can reproduce this and it is just weird. If anything my Defense should be the same for a weapon i'm trained for as an open hand.
39 defense is a big deal, as I lose some defense and the parry ability if I have an open hand.
