Too many to post, but I think this is my favorite:

I think Wii was a stupid idea. Too many stupid people to make it work properly. People who can't hang onto the controls, people who can't play the game in an area without breakable items.

I think they're pretty cool but at the same time I'm afraid to buy one cause chances are sooner or later some drunk asshole (which may or may not be me) is going to break my TV.

That's why there's a wrist strap. And a warning whenever you start a game to wear said wrist strap. And to not be an idiot.

Weren't the straps breaking for a while? Plus after 47829034 beers, chances are you'd forget the wrist strap, which I guess falls into the being an idiot category :D

They're fun as hell though, so if you're too stupid and greasy to play with it, that's your loss.

You don't even need the remote to fuck shit up. My roommate was playing tennis, swung real hard for one, and lost his balance, knocking some metal coasters into the TV. We lost a few pixels, lucky it wasn't hard enough to crack anything.

Sucks that swinging like a fucking tool doesn't make the virtual ball go any faster.

that's what I told him. He insists there's a difference.

The Wii can't detect the force behind your swing, only acceleration/velocity. It's just as effective (it's actually more due to efficiency) to make very quick, small swings using only your wrist.

The Wii remotes are rated for +/- 3Gs or so, but yes, it's just acceleration/velocity... some of the games you really have to give it full force to be effective, just flicking your wrist won't cut it (pitching for example)

My pitches are slower when I legitimately pitch... I get 95+ fastballs with shitty wrist flicks.

I haven't really played it much, but I couldn't get good action with just a wrist flick (out of context that's hilarious), but yeah I was getting 95+ with full motion, it was just a violent motion that wasn't worth hurting my arm over (seriously, sounds sad but yeah... pitching 9 innings full force would hurt)

The funny part is that you can do almost all the moves while sitting down, for the few games I've played on a Wii anyway. So there's little risk of breaking stuff.

Force is what causes a mass to accelerate. Therefore if you measure the acceleration of a constant mass, you're detecting its force. I think you mean the Wii can't detect the range of motion; moving the controller like a tool, or with precision and flair doesn't matter as long as the acceleration or velocity remain constant.

I had this arguement with a friend of mine who didn't understand that batspeed = force, because the bats mass doesn't change.

The Wii can detect range of motion, a lot of games just don't care; It's actually pretty amazing what it can detect: http://www.wiili.org/index.php/Motion_analysis

<<Force is what causes a mass to accelerate.>>

The Wii can't detect mass, either.

<<Therefore if you measure the acceleration of a constant mass, you're detecting its force.>>

I agree.

<<I think you mean the Wii can't detect the range of motion; moving the controller like a tool, or with precision and flair doesn't matter as long as the acceleration or velocity remain constant.>>

The Wii doesn't know/care how many Newtons (or Joules) went into your pitch.

And I suppose if you want to use the correct physics term, I meant impulse (possibly energy) more than I meant force.

Celephais

The Wiimotes mass is constant... so the correlation between acceleration and force is linear. If the WiiMote is 1kg and it measured 1G of acceleration, it would know there was 1 Newton in your pitch.

It's possible (ie., very easy, and it happens all the time) to change the mass of a Wiimote, and not all of them are manufactured at exactly the same mass.

Right, but the games don't care, they just assume a constant mass. If you're dumb enough to attach a bowling ball to your wiimote then you're the one that has to suffer through a preceived decline in force.

This doesn't mean you're not right about the game in question not looking at the duration of acceleration (which would equate to pitch speed) vs impulse acceleration. The Wiimote is certainly capable of telling the difference, if they wanted to make a game sophisticated enough to care.

It doesn't have to, that's the point. Since there aren't significant changes in Wiimotes' mass, detecting acceleration may as well be detecting force.

Except, of course, when there's a bowling ball attached to it.

If you put this at the bottom of all of your posts you'd have a lot less talking back; especially in the political threads.

There has to be a god damned reason why the Wiimote costs a ton of money. Atleast now I know someone could perform remote brain surgery with the fucker if they so chose.

BTW Best game for the Wii so far is Link's Crossbow Training.

Seriously? I've wanted to play this but (obviously) haven't. I just figured the Official gun casing wasn't nearly as cool as some of the 3rd party ones.

Or even better, a DIY (http://kotaku.com/gaming/wii/a-bangin-home+made-wii+gun-233839.php?mail2=true):

Link's Crossbow Training is fun but nowhere near the best game. It's too short and I can't stand the Ranger levels (as well as most of the Defender levels). I do like the Zapper more than I expected to, though. It's pretty good with Resident Evil but I still eventually want to get a Blaster.

The one on the far left might turn out ok.

Edit: On the other hand... he might just be some sleaze that slinked into the picture unseen.

I'm not a fan of the Wii zapper that came with Crossbow Training. It's too difficult to aim with the whole tommy gun style thing going on. I've found I'm much more accurate holding the remote like normal. There's also the point that the remote isn't a light gun, so you don't shoot what you're physically aiming at.

Hahaha, I thought that too when I first saw it... he's the only one not wearing glasses.

The Wii remote's IR camera picks up the sensor bar's four LEDs (two on each side), and uses their offset to determine where you are aiming. There is no reason a game couldn't have you calibrate the sensor (shoot the four corners and the center), and have it work using the actual aim vs the cursor.

And I will destroy you with Sheik and Pit. Sonic kind of sucks, by the way.
