View Full Version : I cancelled today
Numbers

And I feel simultaneously liberated and nauseous.
GS was always a place I could retreat to, but I realized today that I haven't played at all for more than a year, and there was no reason to keep paying monthly for it.
So, no more Hadiar in Gemstone, and that feels great/sickening.

Sucks to see you go, H. Your research is good stuff.

You did the right thing. Time for you to move on. There are other games and other adventures, remember GS for what it was and not the slow downard death spiral it's turning out to be.

I haven't looked back since I sold out, and I have to say that I haven't regretted it either.
Actually selling off all the stuff was liberating.

I am actually thinking about leaving as well. Just about all my friends are now gone.
I have become a loner. Tis not my style, I like to mix things up from time to time.
I'll probably sell my stuff, but not my characters. Would suck to come back and see my Empath, Ranger and Rogue being a dick.
Who knows.

Yeah. I'm gone till there's a reason to come back... but you won't see my characters as anybody else.

Hold or cancelled??
Yeah, it says cancelled as the thread title, I'm aware. But...
Actually, what's the difference between putting an account on hold (i.e., I call billing when I have too much shit to do) versus the "C" word?
AestheticDeath
02-23-2008, 07:56 PM
It's the same thing. You don't pay, you don't play. Account still exists.
I have yet to see them delete an account or character because it was inactive too long.
Dwarven Empath
02-23-2008, 08:03 PM
Didnt know that.
So I can put my acct on hold? With no time limit?
Interesting.
AestheticDeath
02-23-2008, 08:34 PM
Don't quote me on that though. Simutronics says you have a one year time limit or something like that. So just to be safe, make sure you at least call billing periodically and have them know not to delete it.
My accounts were off twice at at least 1-2 years. And nothing happened to them. I never talked to them about it or anything either.
And people come back from playing years and years ago all the time to sell the accounts they deactivated back then.
I think they count on people coming back after a long hiatus. And it's not like it hurts them to not delete it.

I actually just managed to revive an account that was last used about ten years ago, so they must be pretty good about not deleting accounts.
Drunken Durfin
02-24-2008, 03:56 AM
Truth be told, way back in GS3 I gave away all of Durfin's possessions, went into the Inn with an ale wearing only a silvery dwarven horned helm and actually Retired him before I canceled my account. Several years later I came back and they reinstated him for GS4. Not sure if it was the GS3 - GS4 conversion that saved him, but I was under the impression before that happened that once you retired a character they were gone forever.

...but I was under the impression before that happened that once you retired a character they were gone forever.
I was too, but I was also under that same impression regarding going demonic. I thought once that happened, you were sol. However, they can restore those characters for you these days for the reasonable fee of 250 dollars. So apparently, your characters are NEVER really gone assuming you're willing to pay.

Yeah I just quit about a year ago. Unfortunately for me, SIMU didn't know that and kept charging me monthly.
I've been gone for about a year now too, I think it's been. I've only longed to go back twice so far and it was over quickly. The only way I'd actually consider going back was if a couple of conditions were filled (a certain GM gets kicked out and another one comes back, a friend comes back to play with me, et cetera) but that'll be years down the road, if ever. And although I didn't sell any of my characters, I would start over.
If you haven't even played for a year already then you're ahead of the beat-the-addiction game! Congratulations.

I feel the same way Dex. I've had little desire to play since I quit ages and ages a go. The only reason I'd see to reactivating would be to either give away or sell all my unique shit (wolf sword, feature hider, self mana's etc etc) or maybe to attend one of the fun events like Ebons (I doubt even you could resist that).
I might come back full time if specific players were removed for being retard/removed for damaging the game a whole, but that isn't going to happen any time soon.
Ha ha! I might go back for a festival every once in a while but the knowledge that I'd get harassed endlessly by at least one GM while I was in-game makes it not worthwhile.

If it's the GM I think you're talking about, I gave up even posting on the boards because they'd come up right behind me and basically put in their two cents, I only post in the GKs on occasion. Or if I have to for CGM.

That wolf sword has been sought after on the official boards, Stray, along with the wolf bone. Could make a bit of money on that item.

I've done this on and off since like high school. Play a year or two, quit for a year or two, rinse and repeat.
I'm probably done again, at least until they release new hunting areas/professions.

I was selling it on here for a while. People however are stupid. I say "make me an offer" and they u2u me asking how much for the sword.
I'm tempted to take it to the grave actually.
Hey. How much you want for the wolf sword?

If you know your character's PIN (type PIN in game) you should be able to get your character back with no problems no matter how long you've been gone.
You usually can anyway, but I've known people that Simu either couldn't find their character (they asked for their PIN but the person didn't know it) or it took forever for them to find it without the PIN. It's not really a common thing, but I'd keep your PIN somewhere handy just in case.

Yeah, I was gone for over three years while I went to graduate school. Kept my character pin, sent it over to billing about six months after graduating and got my account reactivated.
No problems whatsoever.
Sold my main when I cancelled and like Dex, would have to start over if I wanted to play again. I tried buying cap but it didn't feel good at all.
I don't think I could ever get over the tedium of the grind to cap again. And in GS, for me, end game is where it's at.
I think I'm done with it. I much prefer games with less grind per level now.
Damn. I said “no more” back in 97. Since then I’ve re-subscribed here and there and took it much less seriously since. GS is a leisure thing to me now, like cruises...

So nobody on the boards actually plays GS?
I think these boards are solid mix of both current and former players...although it seems that more of us are becoming former players.
Things just aren't the same anymore and there are much better things to spend the money on.

I've canceled 4 times in the last 3 years for a total of about 10 months.
I come back mostly because it's only 15 USD a month. That's about 30 minutes of work.

What was the story with that one Glad Game against Drizzsdt again?
Yeah. That one.
P.S. -- Congratz on still being the only person to have remained as one individual at the keyboard during your post-cap GSIII grind. I'll peep your AOL profile just in case I am enough of a heretic to forget :D

It went something like this if I remember correctly:
Mind Jolt
4x Limb Disruption...maybe 6x for the hands too, I don't remember.
Pwnage.
Malok wins.
Flawless victory.

Nitefallz complaining about cheating? "Hi pot, this is kettle. Guess what ..."
Edited to note: My comment is pointing out the irony of Nitefallz getting indignant over cheating. It has absolutely nothing to do with Malok or the player behind Malok.

Sad ain't it? That's why selling my stuff takes so long, I have two FULL premium accounts, with a character full of stuff on each char, and usually a locker as well.
Edit to add: That's one of the reasons, the other is I'm too damned lazy to go through all my stuff.

I don't recall any controversy specifically regarding the Gladiator Games other than "its not fair/balanced" or some such.
No matter, I usually caught flack from someone about something that didn't like whatever I may or may have not been doing anyway. :)
