I didn't notice a Rock Band thread, so I'm making one.

Anyone else have it? Which system? And which instrument do you usually play?

PS3 and drums here.

360, vocals/guitar.

My roommate has it. Usually drums.

360 - pretty much all instruments, but drums mainly.

I love how there's downloadable content every week. Oasis and Wolfmother FTW.

I caved and bought this today.

I suck at the drums so far.

I hate the guitar that comes with the game. I was stoked when I saw that the strum bar didn't make that annoying click like the Guitar Hero guitar, but then I started pressing the fret buttons... 2x as bad as the clicking strum bar.

Also, has anyone figured out a way to damped the sound from the drumsticks hitting the drum? The things are loud, and you've gotta pound on the things to register the hit.

I play on other people's 360s because I don't want to buy it for PS2 and only have a Wii for 7th generation consoles.

Anything but drums. I get physically uncomfortable when I try to play drums.

People use those gel insole things on the pad for that.

I actually tore my tendon to my thumb playing this stupid game. Broke my wrist months earlier, and the tendon caught on the half healed bone. Fucking Rock Band has cost me about $3000 so far. Still have to figure out if I want to pay for surgery or lose a little movement in my thumb.

How the fuck did you manage that?

I don't own Rock Band yet, but will most likely get it for the PS3. However, we me buy an XBOX 360 and then get it for that. Just needs to be a game for the 360 I want first...

I don't have to hit mine hard at all. Just a small tap usually triggers it. But in the middle of a song that's going nuts you can't really play lightly anyway so I guess it doesn't matter.

I heard the game play was short though. Like 15 hours like Assassin's Creed. I'm not talking about extras, because I do them, but to accurately describe the story, I need to know what is expected!

With extras... we've put about 40-50 hours into it.

My friends are way too good at that game. We have a drummer, bassist and guitarist who can demolish anything thrown at them on expert. If I play, I'm usually singing- I can at least carry a note.

Put Assassin's Creed on the Wii dangit! Not so much for my own interests, as I don't own a Wii, but it would be hilarious to watch as a mass of children suddenly teach themselves the finer points of assassination and swordfighting.

That is the flaw of Nintendo. They never have enough adult-oriented games. Sure they have party games and "fun" games to play with little Johnny or Mom, but they don't have (in mass quanities) rated M games. Before everyone tells me how RE4, RE:UC is rated M, I know.

Also, the Wii couldn't handle the graphics of AC, that would pretty much make a new game...

I'm still mad about them nerfing the violence in Mortal Kombat 1 on SNES. Well not really, but it was still pretty GAY.

Yea, no shit! I hated that. It was Sega all the waaaaaaay!

Nintendo has been known to do it, and if you look through the N64, GC and Wii titles, you can see that 90% are aimed at teen and under.

Anyone who can play the drums on expert deserves respect. The guitar and bass? Not so much.

I tried drums for the first time a few nights ago and was pretty much a spectacular failure. :(

If you already play drums, it's easy to play Rock Band drums. It's not like the transition from guitarist -> Guitar Hero, because the drums are legitimately drums.

Exactly. And the drums for Rock Band aren't as complex as a big set. Where the guitar for Rock Band/GH is nothing like a real guitar. The only thing a guitarist has a bit more experience with is the ability to move a bit faster through the colors tab/buttons than your average noob (me).

Wait, are you trying to say the Guitar Hero skills don't translate into actual music ability? Surely you jest!

As sick as I am of playing, I think right now my favorite song on Rock Band is Green Grass and High Tides. It's not hard, but it's fun.

That part during one of the solos where the ride cymbal goes into overdrive though....damn it can be rough sometimes.

Metallica songs are fun too. It's too bad Lars is such a boring drummer though.

I think the guitar game on Guitar Hero 3 is better, but Rock Band blows it away with the amount of good songs (and weekly downloadable content.) I'm just starting to get used to the drums. I seem to have trouble hitting the red pad. I just don't know if I'm not hitting it hard enough or not exactly center, but it often doesn't register.

I can barely tap mine and it'll trigger. Maybe yours is a bit faulty. I was watching some youtube video where the guy said he taped his down some because they weren't close enough to the trigger to register most of his hits.

The peripherals they give you (especially the bass pedal) are cheap pieces of shit. Am I the only one here that's had bass pedals break on me yet?

If so, it's just a matter of time until yours breaks too.

They seem to work pretty decently. I think one of my problems with registering hits is that I"m always pulling back so as not to disturb my neighbors (the walls in my apartment are paper thin.)

This video shows it in action. The green pad has no modification to it, and the difference is pretty noticeable. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7oj2vSU7oF4

I bought a plate like that off ebay a while back. Used it to fix my broken pedal since I didn't feel like waiting for my 2nd replacement to get here, and haven't had a problem since. Anyone that has Rock Band should have one for their pedal.

My pedal just broke recently and unsuccessfully super glued it twice. I'm thinking of getting a flat piece of metal, probably from Home Depot and gluing the damned thing on the top. Anyone else have experience with this? I seriously don't feel like waiting for those metal pedals to come in if I eBay it.

Bobmuhthol

My friends just tape something around the pedal. One has a piece of cardboard, the other used a block of wood.

The drums are too small. I don't know why I can't do it, but I'm always hitting the edge of the drum instead of the pad.

You're probably either sitting too close or too far back, depending if you keep hitting the front or the back rim. Either that and/or you just need to develop some muscle memory, which you can really only do by playing more.

If you notice yourself doing it a lot on a particular song, try putting it on practice mode and slowing it down. The best way to build up speed and coordination and all that good shit is to start slow at a speed you're comfortable with that you don't fuck up much on, dick around on it like that for a while, then gradually increase the speed and before you know it you'll be playing it at full speed. If you find yourself tensing up during part of a song, slow it down and work on it until you don't tense up anymore.

You'll play much smoother and accurately when you're relaxed.

I'm more excited for The Who pack tomorrow, tbh.

Living on a Prayer should have been included a long time ago. I'm pumped for Ramblin' Man, Aqualung, Painkiller, Peace Sells (they could've picked a better Megadeth song, but it's good), Ace of Spades (not on GH1 engine), Psycho Killer, and Pinball Wizard.
