No, I mean it was a skit put together by the arena management. It's been done before, and the acting in this was even worse.

The whole custom of accepting a proposal immediately is relatively new.

It used to be considered an extreme social misstep, because it implied that the woman had already given it enough thought to be able to give her answer that quick. Even if she had, she was supposed to take time to consider it. That's why it's a proposal, not an ultimatum.

Don't you usually discuss marriage before popping the question, though?

I would assume most couples do. I know J and I did long before he proposed to me. For a guy to propose without ANY discussion at all of marriage, well that'd make him a giant dumbass just asking for rejection.
