Ok ... hand me downs are fine especially for kids. Hell me and my brother trade clothes on occasion.
Anyways my wife's Nan who just turned 90 and looks and acts like she's about PB's age gave me a whole shit fuck of clothes from my wife's uncle's clothes. He's recently dropped down to 160ish from 220ish. I'm in the 220 ish range so she sent them my way.
All very nice stuff.. ralph lauren polo... etc.
He's a wealthy man and these are very nice clothes and all fresh from the dry cleaner. To be completely honest I really do want them but I'm having a pride issue on the hand me down department FROM HIM. If it was my brother or some such I wouldn't bat an eye.
This guy has always been a douche to me and I'm thinking this is some sort of rib.
Well they asked for them back tomorrow if I don't want them so they can garage sale... which seems to me as more of a jab.
Keep em' or ???
Pick out what you want to keep, then send the rest back with a very nice note. You know, thanks for letting me look through these before your garage sale, I am returning the items that did not fit. Good luck with your sale. You could offer to bring the rest of the clothes to the Salvation Army if they wanted, too.
You don't have to gush, but you do have to pretend like there's no bad feelings. Just be sincere.
If it is a rib, he'll feel bad.
If it isn't, then that's probably how you'd act anyway.
In either case, you should thank them for the offer. The Nan would like it. I've learned not to do anything to upset the old, senile part of the family. It isn't worth the time or energy.

The Nan is the favorite person of my wife's family.
However advice taken.
I believe that's how I'm going to proceed even tho that cocksucker wouldn't feel bad about it at all. Honestly I think he's going to feel like he's winning this one any which way. Touche to him. But I'm going to consider Nan and go play it the way you suggested.
If she feels good about it then I win and he can suck a dick. She's a wonderful person.

I don't understand this. Why should you care? If they're nice clothes that you want and would wear, you should take them. Honestly, who cares what his motives are? Free (quality) clothes are awesome, and it seems to me that by taking them and using them, you'd only be benefiting.

The motives are everything. You should not take any of those clothes and throw it back in the guys face. He wants to pawn off his trash to you ? Has he ever got you any gifts besides pawned off old trash?
fuck that.

I thought it was the grandmother who gave him the clothes? That would be a kick in the axewound to her if he were to be so rude.

I read it like he made the decision to give away the clothes. If he has no idea then yeah thats a jab at her, i guess.

Ditto with B2's advice.
That aside, it was a gift from your Nan. The uncle-in-law had nothing really to do with the gift. She must realize she was going out on a limb to even offer them to you, if she knows how you feel about him, so don't crush her.
Graciously accept HER gift, you don't have to say anything to him. :)
Just dont wear the clothes around him. Thats just asking for shit.

Lol. It's funny how life can be so complicated over something so simple.
Anyways I'm kicking a pair of the shorts right now they're super... except no belt loops. I feel naked without a belt.
Thank you all for the great advice.

Poor Seany, take my advice and hire a hitman. They go cheap for old folks, so easy to pass off as simple robberies. Ok, fine, so I have no real way of knowing that, but it seems logical enough.
