I was out hunting and got a ten pound coffer off of the critter. I did not think much of it until I had Larton open it and he charged me 7k.

This was inside the box:

an enormous mermaid's-tear sapphire


I had a bard sing to it, he said it was a "super gem" and that they are rare. Anyone care to explain what they are for if anything?

The sang value was 20,000. The dealer offered me 15,000. He offered to attempt to purify it but decided against it.

It wouldn't be rechargeable, however, you could orb the gem. You could orb the gem even at magnificent quality but that rarely, rarely happens.

I've found a platinum and bronze one. I wanted to add this sapphire to my collection.

How rare are these gems? I've been told only two (counting mine) have ever been found that he knows of. I know this isn't some super great item, but it sure is pretty. I'm actually abit scared to get it purified, if it's even able to be.

If a higher level bard would like to play around with it, just let me know. I will post whatever is found out about it for those who are interested.

Never seen an "enormous" version of a gem before. Closest I've ever found to a rare gem have been tradebars.

I wouldn't let anyone purify it unless you intend on keeping it. Even if you want to keep it, I wouldn't bother purifying it. No one can see the value or the results of purification. If you're selling it off, I'd let someone absorb the risk of getting it purified.

I'm not 100% positive but it seems like purification ability is linked to sheer value. Even with 98 bard ranks and 60-something Manipulation ranks my bard has issues with capping gems once they hit near 9,000 value.

Gnimble = lvl 100, 127 spellsong ranks, 101 manipulation ranks.

The ONLY time I blow a gem is during catastrophic failure which was roughly 1 in 230ish last time I ran the frequencies on it. That is to say, something like an open roll of 2903840293840923840 so it wouldn't really matter how much training I had.

I wasn't kidding when I said I was the best around (nobody is ever gonna take me down. I'm the best . . . around! I would have railed Elizabeth Shue . . . and still would.).


Moving along, it's not worth purifying the gem. It's value is that it is a collectible.

At the ale feast in zul back in '01 or '02 the prizes they gave out for the maze game where different types of containers that had a large uncut diamond or something like that in them worth about 15k at the gem shop.

Well I'm going to assume it might be along the lines of the other "rare" box loot which really turns out to be more for novelty. There are the large crystal amulets with a few extra rubs, fancy gems and shit like that.

And no Kitsun no one wants you for your body, and no you don't want his bank account he is just a bit off and bids on random shit.

I used to have about six of the trade bars. Silver and bronze. Never figured out their use, so I sold em in bulk sale deals. And no, I do not recall where I got them exactly. I know some were from me buying bulk items.

Yeah same here, most of the ones I came across were from accounts I bought. Sometimes I would come across freaky hording type people, and they'd have like a ton of the Eye-of-Koar Emeralds, or one had some of those trade bars.

If they can't be used for anything beyond selling at the gem shop I don't guess there is any reason to keep them.

Though someone could do a trade bar auction like that one group does junk auctions...
