...take me to pack and clean/repair a 1 bed room house? About 800 sq ft. one floor. I can't take my brand new sectional with me, it's too big and I'm totally bummed. I need to make a reservation with the truck and everything by tomorrow at the latest and I'm trying tofigure how long it will take to pack up all my shit.

Where I am, the landlord requires I fix any nail holes, and scuffs on the walls need to have a slap of primer and I have to make sure nothing is broken or needs repairs. I also was told I have to replace the toliet seat (wtf?) because he forces every tennant to do that (heard from a neighbor).

I was hoping to set up a move date for Feb 19-20. That enough time?

Depends on how much crap you have.

Not much. I tried to give the house size to help with that. Was just me and my girlfriend. We don't have clutter. Only one bookshelf filled with books. Nothing unter the bed, only some old end tables in the basement. But everything else is pretty normal for a one family, one bed room house.

As long as you have plenty of boxes/packing material it shouldn't take longer than a week or two to pack. A day with a bunch of friends to move.

Yea, most my friends don't live anywhere near me anymore, and every friend I've made in Rochester, NY aren't good friends at all.

I guess I could call some friends from the 'cuse to come to my rescue for free food, beer and Mario love.

Will be just me doing the packing, cleaning, loading of the truck (though I have an option of paying a company $50 an hour to help me) and moving.

Dude you could realistically renovate a 5000 sqft house in 20 days.

Just get your ass in gear and it should take a weekend tops.

Ok, good! I need this sort of encouragement. I just want to make sure that I'm not being unrealistic.

In my experience, it takes much shorter to pack and clear everything out than I plan on. The last time I went back to Chicago to clear out my things and clean, I planned on staying overnight. Everything was in the car and spotless within two hours, though, so I just left.

You haven't been in this place very long, so you won't be faced with the "Oh god, whose jacket is THIS? When the fuck did we buy THIS?"

What color are the walls you have to prime? Don't be a moron and "Oh, I'll save money and just paint them white." There's a reason people use primer. But you'll need a day to let the spackle dry, then a day to prime the walls and to let them dry and then touch them up if you have dark spots.

Plan on being there three days after the movers take your stuff (or plan on taking 2 days to throw all your shit in boxes, then 3 days to spackle and prime before the movers come) This gives you plenty of time to slack off.

You could spackle and pack, then prime, and have everything ready for the movers in I'd say three days.

Sucks on your couch though, after all the trouble you went through for that.

Yea. That is why I'm just getting primer. The color is white, but what shade? So, it's safer to do that, because NY law is they HAVE to paint this place before someone else moves in. Tomorrow is errand day where I get everything possibly down and buy some sandpaper and primer along with try to find a bank.

Friday I have to go back to Syracuse and get shit taken care of at family court. As for the couch, I just picked out a new set. It's a Teal/Ocean color, has a chaise lounger, couch and chair with ottomon. Will look pretty nice!

Man I just recently took down a fucking fence panel so I could get my awesome new antique desk in thru the back sliding door. What a pain in the ass.

I seriously don't know how I got my last two sets of leather couches or the 52 inch projection tv thru the front door... that mother fucker is small.

I also just replaced my toilet seat.. and the fucking bolts were stripped. I ended up having to hack saw them bastards in about a 3 inch crooked ass space. Come to think of it I had to hack saw the bolts on the fence as well.

So in conclusion buy a hacksaw.

*oh the real conclusion to my post was sposed to be ... when I move out of this rental I'm leaving everything but my desk and buying brand new fucking everything.

If it's just primer ... go with white and make sure it's primer.

It's best to get everything out first. Get some putty, a trow, and a sanding block with a fine grade of sandpaper.

Button up all the holes, move your junk, tape off where you need to. By that time the putty should be dry ... go back with the sanding block and hit the buttons. remove all of the outlet and switch plates. Then hit the walls up with the primer. Replace the plates.

An 800 sq area shouldn't take more than a few hours if it's empty ... unless of course there's all kinds of crap you have to paint around.

Yea, not too much. I dinged a few corners and have some holes to patch up. I hung a bunch of stuff up, and the speakers are in the corners. Hoping to have the place done by early next week and then just top it off for the movers.

Thanks for all the advice, guys.

I can't help but notice that this seems all a little sudden. Aren't your kids in NY with the old lady? Is this new lady legit? Major life changes on a whim?

Be careful when you're this vulnerable.. Drew and Drew2 will try to cuddle with you or something.

The Ponzzz

I'm ok with some Drew cuddle.

The ex is in CA with my son, so, NY doesn't have much in for me.

I agree, I don't like to do things on a whim. And yea, this girl is legit, she supports my gaming habits too! HURRAY!

I'll miss NY though. Been upstate my whole life. I really wish it was south or really far west, but gotta go where there is work. I'm possibly going to go for my masters. I'm not sure. I made the Dean's List last fall, and got accepted for a business scholarship for next year (but I'd have to do online classes from Indiana in a SUNY school.)

I'm pretty worried about work. I've worked sales for awhile now, mainly pharmaceuticals, but for the past 2 years I been doing Short Run Color printer sales for both Kodak and Presstek. I haven't seen anything for work like that in South Bend. Nothing that pays over $12 an hour and that isn't telemarketing. I haven't made under 35k in a long time. That scares me.

I scour the interweb every week for the best avatars! I had two others ready to go, but I think one would get me banned.

Heh, I must not have as much shit as I think I do, because I was able to move all my junk in two car trips (I have a two door coupe).

If I were you, I'd hire a maid to clean the bathrooms/living areas -- they should only charge you like $60 if it's a few rooms. I'd pay that much to not have to clean a bathroom for three hours again. God that sucked.

OOoo good idea. I like that.

I clean my bathroom once every week or two...it's never taken 3 hours to make it spotless before a move. WTF, do you not clean it ever?

Stretch

Yeah, pretty much never; lone exception is the toilet every month or so...

The bath tub took f'ing forever to clean.

The Ponzzz

I clean the bathroom every week, takes 15-20 minutes. But I hate cleaning the tub. I need to make it shine and it's not a shiny surface...

Plus, it can just save me some time and frustration. I'm giving them a call tomorrow to get some rates.
