View Full Version : Glass in my toe.

Sean of the Thread

I've got a nice big chunk of glass jammed up in my big toe right at the first crease on the bottom.

I've tried the following:

Soaked it in hot water.
In hot water with epsom salts.
Water with sea salt
Drawing salve/s.

Can't fucking get to it. I refuse to go pay a doctor what would surely be fucking over a grand. It's slowing me down as I'm working on my feet walking vigorous miles. It fucking sucks. I've put ambesol on it the last two days so I could deal with the pain while walking.

It's not infected but my feet and especially my big toe is sooooo calloused from wearing sandals non stop for the past 4 years that it's in there good and I just can't fucking get to it.

Any miracle advice before I have it amputated and donated to backlash for a penis enlargement?

I'm contemplating taking a razor blade and slicing it up at this point but I'm sure I'll end up fucking it all up even more.

The razor strategy is only for those who can endure pain, do it properly, and be 100% sure that they've done everything possible to keep the process sanitary. I'd suggest amputation.

Breaking your nose for the fifth time while simultaneously getting your pinkie chopped off by a sports mask should lessen the pain, at least by comparison.

Podiatrists' cure-alls are available at your local Sports Authority; check it out, you know, in addition to running 4 miles each morning as part of your Marine Corpse daily regiment.

Thanks for the advice.

However not only did I get more exercise than you today I also earned $270 in 3 hours including drive time and gas deducted.

Granted you could steal that much in 5 minutes from your mother including purse sneaking time so touche.

Oh and what service were you in again? Your turn mopping at the rehab clinic doesn't count as service either before you answer.

Exacto knife works better than a razor, if you have one.

After being a sandal/barefoot guy in a house lived in by 12 college males, I'm used to what you're going through. Have a couple and then go to it. The longer you leave it in there, the more damage it's causing, and the longer it'll be sore.

Sean of the Thread

ahh makes sense. Exacto sense it's pointed. I may just soak it for an hour and dig in then... it's really only callous so it can't be that painful to saw thru but I swear it's down to the bone.

Stop kicking beer bottles.

On a more serious note... consider getting someone you trust to help you get it out. Primitive surgery is much easier with help.

Pay no attention to these wanton lies. One thing is to make SURE you cut down directly, to get at the glass, and not across, too.

Good luck.

Only persons could be my brother or my wife and I don't trust either with dull instruments let alone razors.

And sadly it wasn't a beer bottle... unless it's grolsch or red stripe my beer comes in a can.

My daughter was playing a jenga type game and I decided to be cute and toss my sandal across the room at her tower.

Well she whipped it back at me and it smacked two disney glasses full of coke on the coffee table in front of me causing the cat on the top of couch behind me to jump off using my neck as a springboard... except with her nails... my reaction was to wince and stand up to strangle the cat however I ended up standing in a pile of two broken ass pooh bear glasses needling my feet with glass.

You might want to try sanding or cutting down the callus before you go in looking for the glass. If it's in the callus completely, removal will be simple enough. If it's in the skin or muscle, there will be that much less you have to cut and manuever the glass through.

radamanthys
01-31-2008, 06:46 PM
The calloused parts will just either peel away, or be easily cut through. Make sure the knife is sharp. I used to do it all the time... it's not that bad, really.

If you do use a razor, you might want to heat it in an open flame 'till it's red hot first to sterilize it.

Unless you happen to have an autoclave sitting around somewhere.

WTF.. what kind of shitty insurance do you have that it would cost $1000 to get a glass shard taken out of your foot. Go to your PCP and get it taken out. $25 tops.

If you don't have insurance.. then it STILL won't cost you $1000.

Tampa is one of the top areas of the country for that drug resistant infection... so my advice is get it taken care of TODAY.

No insurance. 1k was an exaggeration but it would easily hit the $500.

Well it's not hurting but it has turned black inside. Must be the dried blood. No infection. I'll give it a couple days then get it taken care of if I have to. I'll just hit the ER and tell them my name is Pancho Villa or something.

I was in a car accident when I was 17 and ate the windshield with my left elbow and forehead. Believe it or not, your body will work out the glass by itself if it's irritating. I can remember rubbing my forehead years later because it itched, and pulling a piece of glass out of it.

I'd say wait awhile if it's not hurting, and it'll work it's way to the top and out.

Or it'll work it's way into your bloodstream, clog an artery and you'll die.

This is a swell idea, so that instead, more tax payers' money can be spent on important things, like welfare checks for Laquiesha Jackson and her 6 kids Tyrone, Jamal, Dwayne, Chiamaka, Tylenol, and Mike.

Don't forget the up & coming in popularity VRSA...antibiotics ftl. Not that huge of a risk unless you're running around barefoot with that open wound in a public area, media loves to bring things like MRSA(been around for a long time) into a public hysteria(SARS anyone?).

Bingo. Whenever someone says that healthcare should be a right in this country.. I ask them why they don't consider food and shelter to be rights also.

If they say we should also provide that, then I say what about utilities, transportation and employment. By the end of our conversation.. they usually agree that Healthcare is a much lower priority and not really a 'right' the libs claim it to be.

I know we do assist to a point. My parents made bad choices blah blah blah had crappy jobs and couldn't afford health care.
