Jesh whispers, "I'm not the person you think I am. So if he was from Ill. I wouldn't know."
.
Now, I have no problems at all with said person, the fact is the names of certain people should have been grandfathered. And it is a damn outright fucking shame that someone else is walking around with that name. Next thing you know someone will be walking around with the name Valeria, Mikhail, Stormarm, Lanthar, Taarna, or Metaboculous. Give me a break.
:thumbsdown::thumbsdown:
That's sick. I thought he came back a year or two back.

I saw someone with my very first characters name. I wasn't very happy and the name was far from common. I believe it was a joke made to piss me off.

I left for a while and tried to come back with my original character's name, and it was taken. That sucked.

if you have the pin you can get your old name back if it is no longer active.
sometimes taken does not mean in use. it means it does not fall into these categories
1) All characters from Simutronics accounts which have been closed for more than 12 months.
2) All characters from non-Simutronics accounts which has not logged into the game for the past 12 months.
3) All characters who have less than 1 hour of total play time AND have not logged into the game for last 90 days.
even if I didnt have the pin, I would call Simu will do great things to get a extra character slot on your account

Thats kinda tough. Who would make the list of names to be permanently grandfathered? The GM's? The players? How do you qualify any of them? No one wants their name to be taken up by someone else. However if everyone had their name permanently, then there wouldn't be name purges and we'd all have to slap our keyboards for new names.
I believe after some time, it could be possible for this new personality behind the name to make a new legend for that name.

Jesh plays Platinum, if I recall. However, I thought that transferred over to prime as well as vice versa.

Jesh retired long ago. He doesn't play anywhere.
The original Valeria retired a very, very long time ago. No, she doesn't post here ;)

Valeria definitely doesn't post here. Not the one I knew.
With that said..
That is why I do not like people selling off characters. What a shame.

At least four of those are streets now, so I doubt they'd let them be names anymore anyhow.
Secondly, of the seven names you posted, I know of one of them. Sorry :D you're oldschool and most people aren't.

That is why every quarter I suggest to Simu that they allow name changes for a fee

The name Ilstar has been used again, playing the son of Enegue and Brownyng. I don't believe it was the original Ilstar, but they had permission from the original to use the name.
Anyway, yeah, you can be named after a street.

Actually, someone already stole Metaboculous' name. I saw him sitting on the Hearthstone steps a few times. I asked if it was him and he was back, but he said that he was named after the guy.

I believe that we should not be restricted to have one name for one character. As long as our last names are unique, there should be as many Jesh's walking around at one time for as many people who want to play a character named Jesh. It's a little unrealistic that with all of the people in Elanthia, no two have the same first name.

But unless you want to go all Modus and have both of everyone's names show, it would cause unresolvable mechanical problems (to allow identical first names).
GMs and Simu suck at name stuff, always have, always will.

Valeria doesn't post here because I was thinking of Valiria.

I totally agree that there shouldnt be a restriction on first names. Who cares if someone else has it?
I was talking to my friend about this and he kept saying things like "But how are you going to tell who is yer friend and who is someone with yer friends name?"
I say, look at em. I always look at people, check what they are wearing, their gender, their age. I used to play Ultima online, where there arent any name restrictions, and it seemed to work fine there.

There was someone who had their name spelled close to Meta's first name, but it was off by one letter, it was not re-released.
My understanding from the name purge post that was made was that any over-Legend character name would probably not be purged.
And I would imagine for those characters that were big figures in the beginnings of Elanthia modern history, it would be a travesty to release the names. There are several places in the game where his name shows up. Releasing it would be folly.

I know I'm coming in late, but wtf? So someone played a couple years and their names are sacred forever, 'cause the couple years they played were on Genie? There are hundreds of players who've been at it for six or seven years who'll never get that treatment.

My main character has the name of someone who rerolled his character into a different name around 2000. Do that person's friends care? Nope. They generally think it's pretty cool that someone with a dramatically different character has the name now. Unless it's blatant idiocy, I don't have a problem with it. This game's been around, what, 15 years? A kid born in the beginning could nearly drive at this point.

Not true, Sagan. Jesh was in Plat as recent as last week. I saw him myself.
**edited to add I'm sure this is the original, as well..since he had all his neat back in the day gear if you know what I mean.

I saw Megaladon in Ta'I yesterday. It was the same character, at least, since he was a 100 level warrior, but I wasn't too sure on the player - I can't claimed to have known him real well back in the day, nor was I gonna say, "Hey! You remember soandso from X years ago? That's Me!"

Yeah. People tell me, "I'm really Soandso, you knew me back when," I'm like, whatever. You want to know me with your new character, get to know me, don't trade off of that we went on three hunts together the second week of April six years ago.

Yeah, I've tried to talk a couple GMS to bring up the idea of name changes for a fee.. but then you'd have people buying characters that are really well experienced, changing the name, and acting as though they did everything. I mean the whole idea of role-playing is growing and developing a character. People who buy characters are cheaters... (Unless the player is simply for spells and hunting... Not role-playing. Its a waste, but I'd rather that then someone walking around with a great name and destroying it with bad RP)
But I don't know, there is a good and a bad to the issue. All I know is, I miss some of my old names and I still cannot get them back. It's frustrating because most of the nice names are taken. Now, you get odd names like: Hasina (which I don't like very much). I think the last name I saw around the catacombs that I liked was "Suraya" (which is actually the name of my friends cats), but that name ended up going to hell when she demonstrated bad role-playing and so on.
Hmm. I can't think of any other names... Too many bad names... So few good.

OH, and what really sucks is when people take good names for locker characters!

Yeah. I bet if you let people take "Peasant Joe" or "Slave Barbie" for character names for locker characters it'd work a lot better. Too many'd say "I really mean to play this character someday" though.
