I h8 OHEs, but I will say that that looks like a retardedly easy case to plead in order to convert the short sword to a katana base if you get the right GM and excercise patience if you don't.

Actually, katanas that are other bases than katanas retain their properties when converted. So it would keep the snake flares. Or if it had been blessable, it would have remained blessable, etc etc etc.
