They say the relationship between wine and cheese has, for all its greatness, been marred by a bitter struggle for power.

The wines and cheeses here are indeed powerfull...

a block of pepper-crusted cheese: 102, 20 bites

some waxy bright orange cheese: casts 202, 16 bites

some green-striated cheese: 113, 10 bites

a sphere of milk-white cheese: casts 905, 20 bites

a flat disk of marbled orange cheese: casts 511, 10 bites

a crumbly piece of white cheese: casts 406, 16 bites

a scored brick of yellow cheese: casts 503, 20 bites

some blue-veined cheese: casts 107, 20 bites

a sharply-cut slice of hard cheese: casts 401, 20 bites

a round of wax-covered red cheese: casts 103, 15 bites

some gelatinous red quince paste: casts 203, 20 bites

a red square of soft dessert cheese: casts 114, 10 bites

a half-round of yellow cheese wrapped in waxed red paper: casts 507, 15 bites

a slender slice of blue cheese: casts 101, 20 bites

a squared chunk of rock-hard cheese incised with two crossed mining-picks: casts 211, 10 bites

a half-dome of salty white cheese: casts 604, 20 bites

a sphere of milk-white cheese: casts 905, 20 bites

a button of soft herbal cheese: casts 603, 15 bites.

some square chile-dusted cheese: casts 602, 15 bites

some green-striated cheese: casts 113, 10 bites

a round of red wax-covered cheese: casts 103, 15 bites.

a wet lump of milky white cheese: casts 506, 20 bites

some wrapped blue cheese stamped with the peacock of Ta'Illistim: casts 509, 15 bites.

a round of wax-covered red cheese: 103, 15 bites

a squat cube of purplish cheese bound with black twine: casts 414, 10 bites

a bottle of Wsalamir ice wine: casts 602, 20 quaffs

a bottle of rich Kytawa red wine: casts 603, 10 quaffs

some Ralgrenek toadstool wine: casts 604, 10 quaffs

They all weigh under 2 lbs. You also get some great flavor messages when you eat or drink them.

Available in large supply in my Solhaven shop, the giant blue lobster-shaped tavern in room one of the spiral (http://www.virilneus.com/shops/index.php?name=The+Blue+Lobster)

I believe it will go bad eventually, but food won't start to go bad until you take the first sip or bite from it. You can also grab a paladin to cast 1604 on it and reverse the spoilage.

>eat my other cheese
You take a bite of your blue-veined cheese. The powerful taste of blue cheese fills your mouth as the cheese crumbles over your tongue.
A deep blue glow surrounds you.
You have 19 bites left.

>eat cheese
You take a bite of your wax-covered red cheese. The cheese crumbles slightly at your touch, releasing its sensuous, full-bodied aromas.
You suddenly feel more powerful.
You have 13 bites left.

Cheese is a food made from milk, usually of cows, buffalos, goats, or sheep, by coagulation. The milk is acidified, typically with a bacterial culture, then the addition of the enzyme rennet or a substitute (e.g. acetic acid or vinegar) causes coagulation, to give "curds and whey".[1] Some cheeses also have molds, either on the outer rind (similar to a fruit peel) or throughout.

Hundreds of types of cheese are produced. Their different styles, textures and flavors depend on the origin of the milk (including the animal's diet), whether it has been pasteurized, butterfat content, the species of bacteria and mold, and the processing including the length of aging. Herbs, spices, or wood smoke may be used as flavoring agents. The yellow to red color of many cheeses is a result of adding annatto. Cheeses are eaten both on their own and cooked in various dishes; most cheeses melt when heated.

For a few cheeses, the milk is curdled by adding acids such as vinegar or lemon juice. Most cheeses are acidified to a lesser degree by bacteria, which turn milk sugars into lactic acid, then the addition of rennet completes the curdling. Vegetarian alternatives to rennet are available; most are produced by fermentation of the fungus Mucor miehei, but others have been extracted from various species of the Cynara thistle family.

Cheese has served as a hedge against famine and is a good travel food. It is valuable for its portability, long life, and high content of fat, protein, calcium, and phosphorus. Cheese is more compact and has a longer shelf life than the milk from which it is made. Cheesemakers near a dairy region may benefit from fresher, lower-priced milk, and lower shipping costs. The long storage life of cheese allows selling it when markets are more favorable.

Solhaven is back, baby! And so is the smell...of cheese!

GRAND RE-OPENING!
We're having a sale to commemorate the reopening of The Blue Lobster Winery & Bulk Fish Monger Surplus Emporium. Lord Bacl Ebontide, owner, proprietor, and licensed notary, planned to celebrate by throwing a party and boiling Citizen Snippy, the surly blue lobster after which the shop is named. However, his soft-hearted customers insisted this was cruel, and Citizen Snippy was spared. So we're having a sale instead! Our motto is: Solhaven may be above water again, but that doesn't mean our balance sheets are! Lord Bacl insists he's still prepared to toss Citizen Snippy in the pot if business doesn't improve. Please keep this in mind while shopping!

Want to see the completely redesigned shop? Check it out here: http://forum.gsplayers.com/showthread.php?p=997151#post997151

Where do you get all the cheese? Do you have an item that makes it, or did you horde it from some event?

I horde from events. The cheeses came from the first two Winterfest Caravans. The wines are getting old and dusty as they were from Dragonfly festival.

There's also a few random items from a few random festivals.

In addition, those that poke around at the cheap, fluff foods may find them from memorable events. For example, on the bar in my front room is "a tiny chocolate swan." This was from a Solhaven celebration at the return of Baron Malwind to Vornavis. "A flute of Illistim champagne" is actual champagne from the Queen of Illistim's private reserve, as offered at the Lumnea Festival of 07. I asked her at the ball about the champagne and she said it was from her reserve.

A wedge of aelotoi cheese? Dragonfly Festival. Some real great flavor texts on it too.

The fluff food is cheap, while the magic wine and cheese is a bit pricy (trying to see how well the sale goes, might make those the regular prices). I do believe the Selanthian wine gives different messages depending on whether you are from Selanthia or not, etc.

Also, forgot to mention in the chest in the wine cellar are several some spiked armor head and neck pieces. Great for headbutts, and subject to the store-wide sale.

LordBacl

Disaster strikes!

There will be no Winterfest Caravan this year! Oh noes!
http://www.play.net/forums/messages.asp?forum=102&category=12&topic=2&message=5601

The lack of Winterfest means one thing, and one thing only: Elanthia's magical cheese supplies, which are already at a critical low, are going to be in danger of disappearing altogether!

Lord Bacl has been working tirelessly to crack the secret of magic cheese. Let's check in on his current progress...

Bacl gestures at a wedge of runny yellow cheese.

Visible wisps of essence dance across the surface of the cheese as Bacl chants quietly, his sure gestures guiding them to slowly coalesce into a pair of small softly glowing runic symbols. The two lone runes flicker momentarily, the intensity of their glow increasing as their form sharpens into crisp, clean edges. Suddenly, the symbols erupt in a cascade of tiny prismatic motes of light, encompassing the cheese to form a shimmering layer over its surface. Slowly, the radiant shell sinks into the cheese, leaving behind a faint, fading aura.

Bacl surprisedly says, "I...I did it."

Bacl cackles!

Bacl excitedly exclaims, "I did it!"

Bacl takes a bite of his runny yellow cheese.
A panicked look briefly crosses Bacl's face as he is suddenly engulfed in a cloud of swirling blue-white essence! Bizarre, alien sounds, discordant and grating, can be heard from within the mist for the moment before it dissipates. When the mist clears, Bacl is nowhere to be seen.

So, Bacl-made magic cheese still needs a little work, it seems.

In the meantime, The Blue Lobster still has a small surplus of magical cheeses and wines in stock (see page one of this thread for an inventory).

Bacl lights a match by flicking it against his thumb.
>
Bacl inhales deeply on his cigar as he lights it. The area fills with a black cherry smoke.
>
Bacl drops a burning match.

The burning match goes out, disappearing in a small puff of smoke.

The Blue Lobster is proud to present our own line of cigars. Made from the finest discount surplus Vornavian tobacco, Charl's Torpedo is the perfect accompaniment to a glass of our fine wine.

http://lodi.winecountry.com/about/wine/reviews/tastingroom/2006/08/images/stogies.jpg

Bacl puckers and blows a perfect circle of black cherry smoke into the air.

I've offered cigars that look like this before, but this time the ones I put on the shelf have something extra to them! These cigars were custom made for me by Denorfio at the CCF, but now that I've won a lifetime supply of Droughtman's Reserve I have no need of two lockers full of cigars (sure, Droughtman's cigars smell like Droughtman's feet, but they're free, so who cares?).

These custom cigars I am selling not only have a unique appearance, they also offer two unique flavor-messages when smoked:

Bacl draws deeply from his cigar and blows out smoke rings that resemble ocean waves.

Bacl takes a long draw on his cigar and blows out a thick cloud of sweet-smelling smoke. It rolls through the room like waves rippling upon the sea.

Please note: These flavor messages are in addition to the standard cigar messages. Sometimes they will only fire off once or twice, and other times they fire off like crazy. Denorfio explained that it is random.

Also note: Lighting your cigar with your fire magic is a sure way to destroy it and get only a stub. Took me awhile to learn this lesson.

I put my whole supply for sale, so once these are gone, they're gone! Enjoy!

P.S.

Buy some cheese and wine and crap!
