View Full Version : California Here I Come.
I lucked out with my next assignment. I am going to be working out of a small Army Air Base in Orange County, CA. Now I know some of the people on the boards are from CA and from around about that area and I was wondering if I could get a little help in finding a good area to look for an apartment for the wife and I.
So far, the areas that seem the best are Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach and Seal Beach, for crime statistics and the like. Are there any other areas that you would suggest?
I am only going to be down there for about three years so I am not looking at getting a house especially with how the market is now.

Orange County sucks. I would tell you to live as close to the beach as possible. The further inland you get, the more you will hate your daily existence.

Very expensive to live there. My uncle is a lawyer there.

OC sounds great to me. Never been there but I don't know what could be bad about 70 degree weather year round.

On the bright side, you get WEED vending machines. And you can roll like a true wesssside cat. That's a good thing for when the caucasoid mutant chases down the original man in another system of oppression meant to fuck your bunghole.
Your fiance is pretty smokin'.

I'm not familiar enough with Orange County to give you anything real specific about where to live, but the times I've gone there it was really pretty, great weather as expected, and lots of blondes ftw.
One suggestion would be to make sure you also check out any place you're looking at moving into after dark. There's some places that are really nice during the day that turn into wierdo nightmares after hours. Venice Beach is a great example of this.
I hope you enjoy yourself in Ca.

Lot of gangs in OC, which I find odd. But my cousin just told me this.

Dave should take Seany Digital out into the desert... where things happen.

I know long beach is a really shitty neighborhood, then you get other places farther inland like Santa Ana which have a shit load of mexican gangs

I live in LA. What do you want to know? Both Seal Beach and Newport Beach are nice at any hour. huntington beach is also nice. Anywhere with beach in the name is a nice, upper class neighborhood. The closer you are to the water, the more money and the safer it is. It's also more fun. Avoid living inland in places like Irvine. For 3 years, you want to enjoy yourself.
OC is really nice, really white, and really pretty. Lots of beach towns. very laid back.
What are you looking for?
So you're loading up the truck and moving to Beverly? Hills that is... swimming pools and movie stars.

I don't know much about the south of California. I've seen and been told it's not the greatest. Not to mention all the freak weather and disasters they've had lately.
I feel sorry for anyone moving to California, I'm a Native and I'm trying to get out of here as fast as I can.
Good luck though.

You know, I don't care much for Californians, but now I feel sorry for them since Dave is moving there.

Anything not LA is a good start. I only visited once, but that was about 5 times too many. The place I'd recommend is Hermosa Beach (noting that I've been there all of a week) but depending on where in Orange County you work it would be a bit of a haul.
I used to take PCH-1 from LA down to San Diego. Laguna Beach and Capistrano Beach are amazingly beautiful. And amazingly expensive from what I heard.
There is lots of pretty places (and liberal faces) so I bet you'll make a good selection for rental purposes. I would recommend moving somewhere else if you ever plan on buying property though.
Although, I bet you can pick up some vacant homes pretty cheap if the bank is willing to turn loose of their foreclosed property.
