View Full Version : Anyone broken their nose ever?

I was totally annihilated by 2 forwards playing rugby, and when I could see again I had a broken tooth and a broken nose.
Been to dentists and they're gonna fix that pretty simply, but the hospital said I have to wait a week before I can see a nose throat and ear specialist to wait for the swelling to go down.
The skin isn't broken, and it only looks slightly out of place, but to the touch it's knocked right out of place and feels snapped in the middle.

Anyone had to get this snapped back into place before? What does it entail, does it hurt like fuck etc.

We won anyway. Get in!

Four times broken. Still need surgery. Can't breathe thru my nose very well which is a bitch when sleeping.

Make sure you get it fixed asap unless you like the idea of breathing thru your mouth every night and every morning wondering where the cat went that shit in your mouth.

Getting it sorted on Monday, which will be 10 days after the break.
I think they might have to break it more to put it back and it might have set itself in place since it's been nearly 2 weeks.

every morning wondering where the cat went that shit in your mouth.
That happens anyway. :D

Broke mine without knowing it when I had a bad car accident in 1982. It's a little crooked, but not enough to notice unless you're really staring hard. I have breathing problems too, but I always did. Very narrow nasal passages. I got those "Breathe Right" strips at the pharmacy one day, even though I don't snore - on a whim. Turns out they're amazing for people who have trouble nose-breathing while they're asleep. I -highly- recommend them.

Just remember when you pull them off, to NOT pull hard or fast or you'll rip the skin from your nose.

Yeah can't afford private. But it is the specialist that's so long to wait for.
I'm not happy about it but there's nothing I can do.
I won't complain about the NHS though.

Rugby? You're fucking crazy dude. That game is insane.

I personally like rugby.. well watching it on occasion.

I get a chuckle out of the whole armored American football thing vs rugby argument tho.

RUGBY: If you're in a volkswagen (besides being a homo) and have to ram a wall you're going to take it as lightly as possible.

NFL: If you're in a M1A1 ABRAMS and have to ram a wall (preferably with terrorists duct taped to it) you're going full speed baby.

The hits and brutality are much harder in the NFL anyday.

Yes, I've been punched in the face by an angry black man that had fists of fury. Sadly I have a really bad fight record.

We just go for the legs / waist, you guys seem to go for anything above the shoulders.
I prefer to watch NFL tbh, it's definately a spectacle like anything American.
And yeah rugby can be insane, but we're not professionals and we're not getting paid.

Meh not exactly. Obviously some of the biggest hits are torso and up but good football is at the waste/legs.

I'd say 2/3rds of the time that I was seriously injured in football was on kickoffs/returns/punts. (basically special teams) There is just soo much speed involved the collisions are brutal.

My brother had his nose broke in a karate tournament. Went to an ENT and had it fixed, and the ENT wanted to know how be broke it. My brother told him in was in the said tournament.

Less than a year after having his nose fixed, he went to another tournament, and guess who he had to square off with? You guessed it...the surgeon who repaired his nose.

The very first punch the surgeon threw? You guessed it again...Broke my brother's nose again.

My brother did win the match though, he was too pissed not to.

Twice, once playing softball, another playing basketball. Hurts like hell, but I fixed it myself. Although the bridge of my nose is just a really sharp thin bone now.

wtf, did you play before helmets or something? Seriously, if you have a helmet and a facemask, I don't see how you could have gotten your nose broken. I've had my eye poked and broke my finger on a face mask, but I'm never seen any hit that broke through a face mask and busted somebody's nose.

I'm calling bullshit on that.

I've had my pinky broken and nearly ripped off getting it caught in a facemask as well.

We never had helmets either when we'd play in the neighborhood.

First time I was just standing in the group with the linebackers coach and took a full spiral straight smack dab on the nose.

The second time on a kick off return I got hit so damned hard I didn't know what year it was. Helmet twisted/ripped off.. two bloody lips and a chin and a broken nose.

Yeah, most people don't play a lot of special teams in the neighborhood, either. He was comparing the hits in rugby to those in football and was saying that people could output more force because of the pads.

Yeah I thought my analogy was pretty clear.
