I have only played this maybe twice in the past and decided to give it another shot today. Do people usually use scripts for this? Macro keys? It's insane how fast some people are. Maybe I just suck.

I just had a really dominant day today... most of it is luck and where you drop and how many pennants are around you. Some people do script it, but a smart player with a macro or two can always wipe the floor with them.

Me, I just use two Psinet aliases:

wave my baton at \?

point my baton at \? pennant

Only type the first two letters of anyone's name or pennant descriptor, too... it can help.

<<Some people do script it, but a smart player with a macro or two can always wipe the floor with them.>>

I don't know how you could ever argue this; an actual automated script would KILL.

Once I started scripting it, I cleaned up. Even with a simple script, you can beat the Psinet macro noobs.

I use Stormfront; I just click like mad on anything that's monster bolded. It instantly does whatever it is you want.

I usually get in the top 5 that way.

I was at work today, though.

I use wizard F-key macros only and 95% of the rounds I play, I place in the top 3.

In my opinion, even a flawless script is going to have problems... because of some of the tactics associated with Pennant Chase. Sometimes it's best to hoard pennants and stay un-colorable after you've been hit instead of going around whacking anyone you can or picking up pennants. But I guess you could just pause the script.

Eh, even if I had a perfect PC script... I dunno. I wouldn't use it. I made my 30k experience just fine in two hours with my macros.

And Mistomeer's definition of "cleaning up" is "getting his ass beat by Rimalon".

You got 30k EXP for playing Pennant Chase?

Yuh huh. Averaging about 650 points a round=650 experience... plus 1000 for winning a free-for-all round... plus 500 for winning most of the team rounds...

And it's all instant, and super awesome!

Nice, I might have to start playing.

Yeah, you clean up nice if you win 1st in the round. I use the point and click method with SF myself. And honestly, the biggest part of PC is not getting colored in the first 30 seconds. No chance of winning if that happens to you.

<<In my opinion, even a flawless script is going to have problems...>>

My favorite part of your opinion is that it's factually incorrect -- flawless = no problems.

That's semantics. A flawless script (in the sense that it will color people and pick up pennants all the time) cannot replicate the value of tactical decisions in the game. It's an inherent problem with a script, regardless of whether its technically flawless in its coding.

<<A flawless script (in the sense that it will color people and pick up pennants all the time) cannot replicate the value of tactical decisions in the game.>>

No one defined the functions of the script, which includes ruling out its ability to make "tactical decisions." You're giving it limitations and then saying that it's too limited to work well.

Such as the tactical decison on which person to color first in a room depending on how fast their actions have been during the game?

If you've got a way for a script to measure that accurately (SF/Lich/Wizard), then I will concede the point. Otherwise, learn to deflate your ego a little bit.

It would be very very easy for Lich or other specialized scripts to determine that sort of thing if someone felt like putting their nose to the grindstone on it. Infact it could rank the order to tag people much faster than can be done by hand (even an unsophisticated script could be coded with a priority list that could be pre-created... and as you play you could adjust the list/add new players to it)

How bout you make that script for me Celephais? I'd sure appreciate it. :P

<<Such as the tactical decison on which person to color first in a room depending on how fast their actions have been during the game?>>

Because, obviously, no one has ever programmed anything that had the ability to 'think'. Ever. In the history of the world. No way.

<<Otherwise, learn to deflate your ego a little bit.>>

You're a fucking idiot.

My nose is at other grindstones when I have time to do it... I also don't use Lich/Psinet (sort of a boneheaded snobbery), and I've never even played a pennant chase.

That and the deal with pennant scripts is that... well no one wants to share the ones they've made, because then they're no longer the top dog.
