I know we have some cinephiles in the PC -- so talk about NEW movies you've recently seen.

Juno -- I personally loved it. I thought that the screenwriter tried to be a little too edgy with Juno's dialect, but in her defense I listened to an NPR interview with her and she said she wanted to focus on the relationship between the edgy teen and the yuppy adults. I think she may have tried a little too hard.

No Country for Old Men -- I still think this is the best movie I've seen in years. Since seeing it I've devoured 5 of Cormac McCarthy's books. I think it's a combination of his amazing story-telling and the Coen Bros gift for directing. It's kinda funny to me that the Coen Bros won the Golden Globe for best screenplay because they literally transcribed the dialect from McCarthy's book.

Into the Wild -- Great music - Eddie Vedder personally wrote and played the score. Pretty awesome. The story, because it's true, is unimaginably fantastic. I thought it was a little on the long side considering most people who go know the end -- but seeing all the beauty of the country through his journey was neat.

Also, we all know I'm an idiot, but I'm going to prove it once again by going to see AvPRequiem this afternoon.
I'm probably the biggest fan in the world of Aliens franchise and Predator is a close second, so I succumb wether I like it or not.

Cloverfield - Awful. Godzilla meets Blair Witch. No character development, shitty ending. Game over.

I usually don't even bother with anything below 50%. If I remember, without check, AVPR was near the single digits.

I think there is a good movie thread but, since I can't locate it, I'm bumping this thread instead.

Just watched Salmon Fishing in the Yemen and it was fabulous.

Yikes, I agree with Latrinsorm on something.

I didn't really find Oblivion to be that great! I found the story uninteresting for some reason. Usually I love sci-fi shiz.

I just saw We Are The Millers and I have to say, I enjoyed. (I'm a sucker for Jason Sudeikis).

I'm still in shock at how crazy hot Jennifer Aniston is for her age. Kudo's to her!

(There is a perfect version floating around the interwebz too)

When it comes to a sci-fi movie I'm happy to just see something I haven't seen before.

Oblivion spoilers below

There was a lot of borrowing/homages (Planet of the Apes especially), but the cloning conceit was very interesting. Even though it turned out to be a lie, it was also interesting to see someone look at what would happen after we won an interspecies war. Matrix almost did this with us losing (and seemed like it wanted to in the first movie before going with BIG MECH BATTLES), Terminator did this with time travel, Trigun might have done this but it was a little hazy... I don't remember anyone else hitting this particular angle.

The acting was good all the way around, the only minor inconsistencies that bothered me were (1) the Sergeant guy resorting to violent threats after about 4 minutes but just kidding he turns out to be an okay guy (2) Sally being able to track someone's DNA from orbit but somehow getting confused between a Ukrano-Bolivian and Red.

I wouldn't say it was great, but it was pretty good.

Eh, I didn't care for Oblivion too much. I saw that plot twist from the start.

Yeah that one bothered me too.
