Was there ever a time when the game was up when over 1000 people were on it, or it didn't lag on a friday or saturday night?

Hell, on AO-Hell the game crashed every day it seemed. Ya learn to live with the crashes and lag....but it still pisses ya off.
I remember in the AOL days when the game would be down everyone would go into the Gemstone chat room and complain about it..

This is all i will say.
Recently i got a little sick of GS, so i downloaded a few massive multiplayer online games demos and tested out a few.
I will use Planetside as my example.
Planetside is a HUGE 3D, multiplayer shooting game, the graphics were great, and battling with anywhere from 30 to 300 other folks was pretty damn exciting. Now i only played for the 7 day trial, but in that time it didnt crash once. a little lag here and there, but no crashes.
Now, this game (planetside) is a fuckin beast, massive resources are needed to play it, and i can only assume the same is true for hosting it. But with over 5000 people playing, in a 3D game it still ran WAY better than gemstone, and gemstone is fuckin text!!
Simu needs to get their act together if they plan on keeping this text based shit going in the new massive multiplayer online 3D uber game world.
Then again, with a list of probably over 3000 addicts, most of which with multiple accounts, i bet we would keep paying if the game was down for a month... i probably would

I don't know how many people here would really run over to a graphic based MMOG. The reason I stay with GS is because I find text to be more immersive than graphic-based ones.
This downtime was some kind of update since they announced it. They seem to be trying to choose off peak hours to do these things but since we're addicts, all hours are peak!
DAMNIT LET US BACK IN!

Yes, plenty of times after GS3 stablized on the web.
They already announced that as people migrate from GS3 to GS4, there would be some issues. I've yet to see a game be "perfect" from the outset without some period of transition.
If you check the web site, announcements, and news, you can keep informed about scheduled or expected take-downs. Recent crashes have lasted often less than 20 minutes, compared to the hour or so crashes of yesteryear.
In 20 minutes I can:
1. Rejoin life and talk to members of my family
2. Make a couple of phone calls
3. Read a few chapters of a book
4. Fix a snack and get a drink
5. Finish making up my Christmas shopping list
6. Address a few Christmas cards
7. Play with my cat
8. Do the dishes
9. Toss in a load of laundry.
It's not like there's nothing else to do, or your life comes to a standstill!

did you say... do the dishes and laundry? Is that an acceptable replacement for GS? ::Shudder::
beyond that... YEAH, get up, give your ass a break! Stretch them legs out, come on WORK IT BABY, do something with your hands besides type!
