Suing has to be the most annoying thing..

I just read an article in our Newsweek magazine how doctors, ministers, and teachers are all deathly afraid of lawsuits. Doctors won't admit to mistakes because they're scared to be sued, teachers are scared to scold the problem child in class because they could be sued, ministers are scared to hug a grieving widow because they could be sued... it's ridiculous.

Now this is how it relates back closer to home and pisses me off... our senior class president, Michelle, decided to start our senior mural without consulting anyone else in our class. Basically the entire class was upset and were talking about it whenever they had the opportunity.

They were sitting in broadcasting class and discussing it. A Junior, Alex, decided to take it upon himself to sit there and videotape them without their permission. A teacher even asked him if he was taping them, telling him it's an invasion of privacy, and the kid denied it.

Next thing you know Alex is going up to Michelle and saying "I have a tape of these people talking about you don't you want it". She did say no but he still tried to make her take the tape. So they told the teacher that he video taped our fellow seniors and the teacher was really upset. What does Alex do? Does he apologize? No he says if the teachers take any action against him then he will sue the school for emotional damage.

He'll lose. If the teachers take action and prove the video tape exists, they have a right to take action, if he tries to sue, the video tape will go into evidence, and it will show that he brought this on himself.

Not only will he lose, everyone in your school will hate him.

Ask that girl who sued to become valedictorian.

What school can truly afford a lawsuit, though? Like it said in the articles, most doctors can win the lawsuits but settle out of court usually.

Your local government would pay for it, so taxes would probably rise until the debt was paid off.

I hate highschool.

Back on topic: It is the people that represent the dumbasses who are suing that make me upset. If the system did not let this shit pass the application process we would be fine. I suppose though that lawyers have to get their jollies some how. Pfft.

Oh my god, and lose a case, regardless if it's immoral or not? No way! Heh.

::cough::

You bring this to the boards with out at least NOTIFYING me? I work in educational law on behalf of school districts, don't forget.

::clears his throat:: Yes. He would lose. And he would lose badly. In fact, the school may get money out of HIM for court fees and expense of counsel. There are a lot of stupid people, especially in the soccer-mom industry type. They're our bread and butter. We LOVE people like this because they're JUST stupid enough to lose, and then take it up a level, and lose, and take it up a level. 99 percent of school districts have attorneys on retainer, which means we work for them for a certain amount of hours for a set price. Schools can and will afford legal counsel and they usually turn out on top. It's generally these type of people that are suing.

That's it Maimara! The exact article I had to read. And I found it so funny that the same day I had to read it (Friday) was also the day my friend Ali told me about the whole Alex thing. I love when things work out like that.

And I heard that on Friday at like 11AM the two teachers of broadcasting and the vice principal had a meeting with Alex and Mr. E tore into him and told him all these laws that he broke and shit. After the meeting Alex was apparently in guidance for the rest of the day sobbing.
