Apparently you forgot to make a poll in this one too.
Edit to add: Since you added it, where's the option for "Who the fuck cares?"

Why do so many of you think this game won't come out? I think thats silly.
It's like they built everything but the steering wheel in the car, they are not going to be "Well then... we've just about finished the car, but I won't add this steering wheel and complete the car and get my bajillion dollars."

If HJ doesn't come out, they spend no additional money, but continue to make bank licensing the engine and using what work that has been done as almost cost-free proof-of-concept.
If HJ does come out, then they need to invest in some huge infrastructure, to say nothing of ongoing maintenance and support costs. Currently, given that Simu has trouble on a semi-regular basis pumping text lag-free to under 1000 players simultaneously, what would make anyone think they're ready to step in with the big boys, hoping to run a graphical MMO?

Well none of us have any experience in the MMO gaming market but... if it's any hints. If they just want to sell their engine, which they've pretty much finished up on... Then why move to a whole new building, upgrade their facilities, and hire a bunch of new onsite people? Why this massive investment? To sell an engine thats already finished and has been selling for the past few years?
...yeah doesn't make sense.

Makes more sense if they were... <gasp> laying groundwork for a new MMO maybe?

Ok, let's run with that.
Let's forget about Simu's market ... text based rpg games.
Let's forget about that once Simu moved from proprietary access to web access, game quality, customer service, content, and the player base has been on a slow and steady backslide into a situation that would leave most companies bankrupt ... so kudos to simu for still being able to capitalize with a steady steam of negatives.
Let's forget about the fact that despite Simu having the market on text based games, they can't code text fast enough to commit to any sort of time table. The seemingly simplest implementations take years, or the alternative, are scrapped without telling the player base. Hell, in time they produced paladins, half-krolvin, and bug elves ... yet they couldn't finish a guild system for all professions before they introduced cobling. They couldn't fill in the spell circles before they introduced fletching and forging. Even after introducing a new class and two new races ... the monk class is "still in the works"?
Let's also forget about a text game crashing and lagging ... despite being text and despite the technology existing that allows millions of connections for intensely graphic games.
Let's forget about how long this game has been in the works, and let's not compare that to other companies they plan on competing with ... let alone standard industry time lines. Not to mention how many gaming companies have sprung up from nothing to having huge success and popularity among gamers.
After forgetting all of that, I could see how one could believe that his game will see the light of day in the next 20 years and it being successful.

Random tidbits..
Blizzard's R&D team is almost as large as Simu's entire staff.
Blizzard uses actual employees for development, wheras most, if not all, GS GM's do this on the side.
Blizzard's parent company merged with Activision in an $18 BILLION deal.
Blizzard's parent company's worth pre-merger was $8.1 billion
Activision alone has over 2,000 employees (pre-merger).
Simutronics is privately held (they don't even have a corporate website anymore!! I thought they were publically traded.)
Activision's stock is 27.14 per share
Vivendi's stock (Blizzard's parent company) is 30.78 per share

Yet one of the largest Video Game companies bought the license to their Hero Engine...hrm...
And folks it's text based coding , are you kidding me? Its NOT that they can't code things on time (I work as a professional programmer and I can guarantee a mining system in a couple months free time). Its the fact they need to lead people on...drag things out... and make you pay more.
Use your common sense, on a lot free graphical MUDs they take a few months to implement major projects. A 20 year old text MUD?...stop it please.

Do you even understand how licensing works? Do you understand game engines are generally purchased from other, smaller companies with just about every game.
And for someone so against GemStone, you seem to be playing and posting on an unofficial forum still...
Just please, stop posting Backlash.

And in what experience with Simu would cause you to think they won't continue doing the same thing with other game platforms?
