I realize this is the millionth build advice thread, apologies.

Getting back into the game after a long hiatus and rolling up a Human TWC rogue, ideally to use Short swords and then daggers but I could still respec to katars.

Skill plan:
1-1.5x armor to brig (ideally around 20 or shortly thereafter) and then leaving it until MBP is more reachable
2x Edged
2x TWC
2x CM
2x Ambush
1 or 1.5x PT
2x Dodge
2x Hide
2x Perception
2x Pick
2x Disarm
(maybe 1x FA)

My main question is how worth it going past 1x PT is. I know it's the primary redux stat now and in the abstract I'd love to have a pure combat rogue - 2x PT, 2x CM,etc.. but in practice I'd prefer the variety getting picking ranks provides. The other issue being even if I 1x PT, I'm somewhat thin and it will be hard to pick up any spells to get to 403-404 in particular. I could also drop CM down to 1.5x or something I suppose.

In the spreadsheet I whipped up a training plan where at 50 I'd have 80 ranks of armor, 2x edge, 2x TWC, 1.5x CM, 1x PT, 2x other skills, and by 60 I could almost bring CM back up to 2x or could take other stuff (3-4 spells for example)

Statwise I'm confident with, going to place for moderate growth, I don't really ever intend on hitting cap but I also hate having early max stats. For human I'm basically going to place to be at a reasonable place in the lv 20-30 range with my physical stats (80+) and then place for growth elsewhere outside of Influence.
Basic Idea:
lv 0 / lv50 / lv100
STR 70 / 90 / 100
CON 70 / 86 / 100
DEX 70 / 88 / 100
AGI 70 / 93 / 100
DIS 75 / 89 / 100
AUR 80 / 90 / 98
LOG 70 / 85 / 95
INT 50 / 77 / 95
WIS 80 / 86 / 93
INF 25 / 50 / 66

Could take a few outta AUR or DIS and stick them in AGI or STR to make my leveling life a little easier I suppose.

UGH.. THW rogues. Not my forte.

My advice, dont play on a busy street.

Might do a search for build suggestions in the rogue folder.

TWC actually

Do you have any insight into the value of 2x PT over 1x? Is 1.5x worth it for redux?

I only 1x. But I am not your cookie cutter GS3 rogue. So I would be bad to get advice from. I'd say 1x is fine, but I also believe you should stick to rigid leathers.

That should be a pretty workable build. I haven't used TWC extensively in a bit, but I've seen it in action and it's pretty nice with two smaller weapons from hiding. The problem you're going to have with this build is that by also being 2x in picking, you'll have to sacrifice something on the physical side.

Assuming you're hunting with just mass spells, your current build is going to have a bit of a weak defense. Since you don't have a shield and are 2x in dodge, you're going to get hit fairly often, especially by ranged and bolt attacks, so ideally, you'd want to bump up dodging, but that's going to be too expensive. The other option is to do more PT and pick up better redux, which is more feasible. That will also give you significantly more stamina so you'll be able to use cmans more often as well.

Also, since you are only 2x in picking, you're definitely going to want to pick up trap lore, but that be a medium/long-term goal (by 50ish? been a while since I was that age) as you won't be able to get your own boxes around that time without self-cast lore.

To get the points for this, I would recommend backing off on TWC, CM, and/or ambush to 1.5x-1.75x, which will probably cost you some killing efficiency, but you can use those points to make yourself more durable.

Group hunting is going to be tough without a good partner because your main tactic is going to be ambushing from hiding, but if you like to solo, you should be able to handle most hunting areas alone and get your own boxes.

That's really helpful, thanks.
How inconvenient is getting boxes opened for you at higher levels? I'd like to be able to pick, but it seems like I have to compromise a fair bit of combat ability to get it.

depends what town you plan on residing in. Most area's have a fair amount of smiths for their respective age range. Places like Vaalor see a shortage of bog smiths, im sure Rivers Rest runs into problems due to lack of people in general, it can be hard to find a smith in icemule\pinefar at times as well but not that bad. Plus by the time you get up there in levels you might be able to dedicate some training points into picking.

Just something to consider. I don't plan on getting PF past 1x until I have about 8 million more post cap experience. There's just WAY more things that i'd find tangibly more useful. I've been wrong before.

Good to know. Still debating (and also screwing around with a gnome war mage with my roommate), but I think I had settled on:
30 armor ranks, then push for MBP as fast as possible in the 50-60 range
2x edged
2x twc
1.5x cm
2x ambush
1.5x PT
2x dodge
2x disarm
2x pick lock
2x hide
2x perception

With spare points going towards Spells (404 by ~50), a few arcane symbols, and some harness power. If I drop PT down to 1x I can afford First Aid or could raise Dodge to 2.5x almost, or some MIU or something.

a few arcane symbols

I'd suggest getting arcane symbol training asap, since it figures in in disarming scarabs. (My 30-something smith has no problem with scarabs at 20 ranks of AS... and gets the scritch-scritch message consistently with 60+ ranks of disarm (on most/all RR scarabs).)
