View Full Version : Moderators still?

Have most the mods just quit or moved away quietly?
Seems since about 6 months ago (maybe more) no one moderates anymore.
Granted there's still a few here who do fuck all but never did so there's no loss anyway. But spambots, multi accounts, racism, material some might deem pornographic and huge thread derailments made me wonder.

I never cared less about the moderators themselves, and tbh I like how them being much less active has the boards more interesting and raw.
Just seems there's been a big change.

The point of this thread is, who exactly still mods here?
And does anyone really care that's it's ending up this way?
Compare today to 1, maybe 2 years ago and what do you think?

I don't mind people's points of view being posted, whatever they are. Trying to hide pornographic photo's from my 8 year old son who happens to be walking by pisses me off. I already had to remove avatars from being shown, and I guess all pictures is next on my list.
Is it really that difficult to put an image link up when you feel those type pictures are relevant to the thread?

Just disable pictures. You'll see a link instead and then it'll be up to you whether you see it or not.

Thanks, I didnt know it gave that option, I thought it just blocked pictures altogether. :)

You're welcome. That's what I was reduced to. I have avatars, sigs and pictures disabled because some people around here can't control themselves. :D

I've been ok with having avatars and pictures enabled, up until UNKNOWN's goatse and then Sean2's fuhmundah cheese pictures appeared.

:(

On topic: there are still mods lurking, just without the chip on shoulder syndrome.

I think the forums have been great lately. Not having overbearing mods is refreshing.

My fuhmundah cheese picture isn't against tos. Hell it's tamer than most of the avatars.

The only problem with any picture we've had in the past year was the goatse that slid by for about 8 hours.

Exactly. Things are much better now days. Adults can have discussions without favoritism and other bullshit going on. Posts can still be reported just the same but the only difference now is we don't have all the "phantom reports" that was such a crock of shit. Every time some over zealous mod disagreed with your ideas or who you were arguing all of the sudden......

As far as the racism I'm not seeing that either. There has been discussions about racism but nobody is going around slinging pure racist hate.

Snapp was always the best mod in my opinion and he's still on board. Always handled things politely and professionally. So that's a plus.

Oh on another note about the pictures and avatars.. it's every users sole responsibility to monitor their computer use in front of their children. I'd never let my girls be anywheres near my desk when I'm posting or reading the PC.

At work disabling pictures and avatars was a must. At home it's up to me to control the environment.

Sean2, what is going on? Neither of those posts is directly insulting anyone. In fact you're praising someone.

You sicken me with your weakness.

Definately.

Definately agreed.

That too.
Also I remember everytime I had an asskicking from Anticor, it was deserved and he too was very mature and friendly about it.
He didn't fuck about.

They're still moderated. Just more intelligently.

They were completely over moderated before though... there were multiple examples of this.. especially in the political topics. If they didn't agree with you politically, they looked for any reason to stifle your opinion.

Now they've gone to the other extreme.. where nothing is moderated at all. Goatse pic is just an example of this trend... but I would rather deal with that, then the way it was before.

I don't think the boards were perfect before, mistakes were def. made by the mods. I just think they were better then even with the mistakes than they are now. Just personal preference I guess.

I think we need to find some sort of happy medium. The way it is now is just silly.

The HN days were equally silly.

The days of HN were BEYOND silly.

I really don't see the boards as THAT bad right now. Biggest problem tends to be straying off topic but it normally quickly comes back during the course of a discussion. Not uncommon for any discussion.

Before it was just insane. If the moderation gestapo didn't chill out about a year ago this board would have consisted of just a few merchants trying to make a buck by now in all honesty.

Methais

The less moderation, the better.

The HN days were just riduculous, as has been said. That was the closest this place came to becoming the officials. I like the way things are now, where mods don't pull posts because they don't like you, disagree with you, are friends with a GM you insulted, etc.

The only problem with any picture we've had in the past year was the
goatse that slid by for about 8 hours.

When was this and why was I not notified?

I haven't noticed anything bad around here to tell you the truth. Granted if a thread breaks down into an argument between two people who are known to argue about the same things (IE: PB vs. TheE) I just stop reading the thread, so maybe I'm missing things.

This is the one area where the lack of moderating becomes the most glaring. Several parties will stray far, far off topic and trade insults for several pages. If there is any intervention, it is usually followed with multiple threads calling for said moderator's resignation. All in all, if the majority of the people are happy with the way the boards run, or are atleast able to tolerate it, then there isn't a problem.

Mostly that's called a dynamic discussion. Something grown ups do from time to time.

As far as the moderation/resignation bullshit every single time it's been beyond warranted.

Anyways things are the best they've ever been around here. :)

Sometimes there's a lot of bickering and I stop reading a thread because of it, but for the most part I really enjoy the as-of-late laid back moderation of this board. I hate how politically correct you have to be on the Officials and tons of other boards. I used to mod for a massive site, Gaiaonline, and I'm used to their very loose TOS, so maybe I'm just spoiled.

As much as it pains me, I will refrain posting my "The British are Cumming" MSPaint masterpiece as another sample of typical responses to these threads.

In any case, for the most part on these boards I think things stay on topic and when people do stray, I typically still find it relevant.

As for other problems (like the goatse thing), I can't come here 3+ times a day like I used to, so some things do tend to sit for a little while if Ilvane can't take care of it. Sorry :(
