Paris! Right in a room where you can see the Eiffel Tower. So romantic.. or maybe southern England in some little cottage in the country.

A caribbean cruise. If you can afford Italy, then get the best suite on a cruise ship your money can buy. That would be an outside stateroom on one of the upper 3 floors, with a balcony overlooking the stern.

Do an 8 day, do an elegant cruise line, not Carnival or Disney's Big Red Boat. Don't do Princess either - they're overpriced for what they offer.

I HIGHLY recommend Norweigan Cruise Lines or Celebrity, but make -sure- that you discuss with the travel agent that you do -not- want a cruiseship filled with a much older crowd.

You'll be treated like royalty, with your own cabin steward, a concierge to sneak you down the back way and get you front row seats to the shows, a single waiter, water boy, and wine steward assigned to your table for every meal who learns your likes and dislikes before the end of the second day, and brings you EXACTLY what you want to the table at breakfast before you even get a chance to sit down.

There are off-ship excursions including snorkelling, days on the beach, shopping at the ports, swimming with stingrays, DUTY-FREE shopping...day-trips to Mayan ruins, plantation trips in Jamaica..

Most of this is covered by your fee, with the exception of tips, alcoholic drinks, and some of the excursions. GOURMET FOOD every meal, with midnight buffets every night. Casual dress (no shorts but khakis are considered appropriate) at dinner, except for two formal nights, the Captain's Dinner and the first night out.

The ships all have dance clubs, which usually cater to the younger crowd, and yes, even bingo and shuffleboard. There is a spa on every ship, where you can get massage, herbal wrap, pedicure, steam spa, mud spa, makeovers, etc. etc. (spa is usually extra charge but they offer certain services as part of the ship fee)

The ship itself is a resort on water, you never have to leave it to get the full treatment. But it goes to exotic places and has so many things you can do once you get to port, there's something for everyone. Even a putting green on some of these ships, and skeet shooting!

Cruise = Honeymoon. Honeymoon = Cruise. It's the absolute best thing my husband has ever done for me since our wedding.

Well, except the NEXT cruise we went on, to celebrate our 10th anniversary. That was a close 2nd. :)

Go to a rural area in a European country where you don't speak any bit of the language. France is good, Italy is good, the Isles are probably a little chilly this time of year, Greece is good, Spain or Portugal would be really nice.

Want my suggestion? Go somewhere affordable and save your money, you'll need it.

I've beent o Rome and France, Rome was better for partying but I guess on a honeymoon Paris would be better choice.. Later

Greece in the summer time.. BEFORE or after the olympics. Nothing beats the Greek Isles for romance, food, beauty and partying. I'm partial to Corfu, because thats where my hubby is from.

Hmm. Perhaps Athens, Greece. Much to see and do, if you are of a mind to. ;) You can cruise the islands, as well, and in high style.

So much depends on what you are looking for. If you want the standard honeymoon-type thing, Paris or Rome would be great. If you are looking for something different, there are a lot of places that would be off the beaten track for honeymooners but still a great experience.

Athens is a dirty pit, Paris is smoky and if you don't know the language and make no attempt to speak it, Parisans can be rude.

On the other hand, Provence is a lovely place to retreat to and you can spend a good many days exploring the many medieval roman hill towns. Italy... depending on the time of year, you might want to think about the Cinque Terre, Siena and surroundings, or Lake Como. Think remote Greek islands, instead of the touristy choices, for a romantic setting.

Save money and head for the more exotic Belize, but do read about the seasons there, as you probably don't want to spend a humid typhoon season or hurricane season there.

In Mexico, go to Playa del Carmen or the smaller Isla de Mujeres just off the coast. Lazy lifestyle, swimming, snorkeling, diving, ruins, shopping -- a little bit of everything.

What you should do first is have a discussion to determine what you want to do on your honeymoon.

If lounging, screwing, and being waited on is at the top of the list, go with a cruise or a stay at a nice resort.

If you want the choice to do the above and do some exploration, then finding a romantic retreat in an exotic location that is restful, too, sounds like a good match.

If you've lived together forever and the sex thing isn't all that new and important, then you should find a location that offers enough interesting things to do.

Here's a few places that I'd like to stay:

Italy is IT. Go to Italy. And be sure to visit the isle of Capri. Visit, don't stay there, it's mad expensive. But yes, Italy. It's the best.

Two years ago I went to Grand Cayman....it was gorgeous! Actually, I'm planning on either going back there or to another island this spring. Tropical is the way to go!

If you have enough time (you didn't mention that), you can do a 4-week European Cruise, or a Mediterranean Cruise.

Leave harbor in the States, cross the Atlantic for a few days, head to Spain. Spend a few days touring or lounging, wine tasting in Castille, expeditions designed just to see Spanish castles, the Moors.. then skip over to the Greek Islands. Spend a day in Aegina for cliff-diving and the cleanest, clearest sea-water in the world. Don't bother with Athens (on the mainland) unless you're just totally obsessed with seeing its history. It's filthy there. Stick with the islands.

Hop east again for a two-day romance-spree in southern Italy (more castles!!!), then cross the Mediterranean Sea into Algeria (North Africa). Last stop - MOROCCO, woo! Then cruise home, having been thoroughly pampered the entire time. I'd recommend Egypt and Tunisia, but they're just a wee bit too close to some heavy-duty skirmishes right now.

If you're looking for Carribean go Aruba. Friendly people, gorgeous weather year round, no hurricanes.
Personally if I do it again, I'm heading for Stonehenge.

All about what you're looking for.

Ditto, I went to Aruba 2 years ago. One thing you should know is that it's not an "overly-green" island. It's mostly rocks (though the hotels green it up). Kick ass beaches, pretty much everyone there speaks english (and some kind of weird hollandish language).

Aruba kicks ass, best island I've been to yet.

I've never been out of the country, I wouldn't go to Africa if someone paid me to do it and I'd move to New Zealand because it's absolutely gorgeous and their kiwi candy rocks.

I didn't tell the wife where the honeymoon was going to be. I made a map and cut it into pieces. Every few hundred miles I gave her an envelope with one piece of the map. Sure she knew the final location before the last piece of the map but the it made it alot more fun that way. God I'm good. :)

Shame that map just went around in a big circle and you were back at home.

Cheap bastard.
