So my laptop is on the way out. It's a T40 from 5 years ago and it's had a good run, so I'm strongly leaning towards going with IBM again to the tune of a Thinkpad R61e. It seems to be just as good as what I've got now and only sets me back $700.

...is where it is.
Does anyone have any other recommendations or reasons to get off the IBM train?

I hear nothing but good things about thinkpads, stick with them.

I really been liking my HP Pavilion Entertainment PC laptop. Extended keyboard, 17" widescreen, 2GB, can play Oblivion, built in web cam and mic, huge HD. Good shit!

What do you use your laptop for?Edutainment mostly.
I'm pretty sure the most resource-intensive thing I use is Excel, honestly. Gemstone, music, browsing the internets, AIM?
The one you linked doesn't even compete. The one I linked has two advantages: 1) it's not a stupid Acer and 2) it's in stock.

I've had a toshiba laptop the past 4 years (on my second one now and just bought a third for my Mom). No complaints except the keys fell off of the first one, which they fixed right away.
I don't game on my laptops though, so really the only thing going on is the PC, various utube sites, gemstone, and work/play email.

Now my wife wants a lapper. She was looking for something in the $600 range. I doubt she'll do anything more taxing than put WoW on it. I know it's tough to find much of anything in that range, but she has her heart set.
I'm no cpu expert and she always wants to buy the first thing she sees. I need to have some suggestions in hand so I can dispute the pieces of shit she wants to buy.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Might be tough to find something you can play WoW on in the $600 range. The cheapest I've seen anything with discrete graphics is in the $1000 range. I've heard the new Intel GMA 3100 (or whatever it is) is pretty good for a integrated solution, but I don't know if it plays WoW well or not.
I was looking at a Dell D630 and an IBM T61 (14") and still topped out around $1500 by the time I had them where I wanted them to be.

You'll have to wait until she actually has a lap again for that kind of lapper.

Get a Dell Vostro 1500 with the GeForce 8600 GS or GT card. You can usually always find a rebate for $100-$200 and snag one of those laptops for $700 or less.
