Since I haven't had shield training for a few years might be time to let this go..

a pulsating shield of essence that is so dark it appears as a vortex draining all light from its surroundings

8x medium shield
Vacuum/steam switchable flares
Lightened to 4 lbs

>turn shield
As you turn the shield it is washed away in inky-darkness as the light folds inward upon it.
>turn shield
As you turn the shield plumes of white-hot steam puff from it.
