With weaponry, you obviously aren't allowed to change the base material of the item. Is this also the case with instruments? Do instruments even have a durability, or inspect as any given material to begin with?

I have changed the material on instruments. Wood into bone, oak into witchwood, etc.

Think of it more as a fluff item (would you even ask about turning your silk cloak into a wool cloak?).

If you have a problem, your alterer is a) a clueless newb (some of the things these merchants at this fest are saying to about items/making for other people make my brain bleed) or b) someone who likes to argue a lot.

But that shouldn't happen; you shouldn't have a problem.

Actually, this rule was changed shortly before Paul left. Most recently I've had an off the shelf steel awl-pike and I believe a vultite HoK changed into invar and ironwood.
