I thought this might be a fun topic. What is the weirdest thing you've ever seen in Gemstone, or about Gemstone? Doesn't have to have happened in game, could be something you saw at a con, or anything relating to the game.

My own weirdest experience happened during the AOL explosion right when the game was near peak population. I stumbled across a webpage created for people who worshiped Voln in real life. It seemed totally serious, I'm sure it's been gone for years but I wish I'd saved a copy. It had instructions on prayers and meditating with Voln. Definitely the weirdest thing I ever saw relating to GS.

I was once really drunk and a GM whispered my RL name to mess with me and I was telling people to remind me to check my logs because I had impaired cognitive function. All in all, it was funny and no LOL-kittens were hurt during the debacle.

That time I made an RL cult of Voln worshippers was pretty effed too.

Foxs in general is probably the weirdest thing I remember from GS. I haven't played in so long though I'm sure I witnessed some weirder things back in the day. I still can't believe I played that game when I was 12 and I'm 23 now. Life goes fast.

Yeah, the text dreams REALLY screw with me. The saddest part is how boring they are. I'll be in the middle of one, text-based GSing and thinking "Jesus, this is dull, I wish I could wake up".

Then I get up and play GS.

THAT'S the sad part actually.

The craziest thing I have ever had in relation to gemstone happened towards the end of Basic Training. I was describing to this guy who wasn't really well liked from a different platoon what GS was and how I got into it. I knew the guy to be kinda odd, as he was a pagan and was always offering to make people star charts and what not, but he seemed alright to me up until this interaction.

I start describing the game, which..you know, sucks, as you fully realize how much of a nerd you are when attempting to justify WHY anyone would willing play GS. He then says to me, "OOH. I know what game you mean now. Yeah. I used to play that game all the time!"
I think, cool. I've very rarely met anyone else who actually played the game so I start chatting to him about random stuff he might remember and he listens quietly. After a time he finally admitted, "I helped run the game."

This was rather curious to me, as for a minutes seconds ago the guy didn't even remember the name of the game when I first mentioned it to him. But, you know, people sometimes like to block things like devoting years to text based games out of their memory. When I asked him what he did, he responded with, "Oh, I would wait in new areas, and once someone actually arrived, I would talk to him. If he wasn't cool...I would KILL HIM". Word for word, what the guy said.

It was at this point I realized this person had never been a GM, and likely just lied to me throughout the entire conversation. No idea why he would make shit up like that. It was very creepy...like, "MAYBE THE DINGO ATE YOUR BABY" Creepy, and I remember nodding and turning to walk away quickly.

Shit when I was in Basic training there was this one in bred fuck. He used to tell people he was from LA, until someone was like wtf, there is no way..and he clarified that he was from Lower alabama.

This guy would wear his PT hat to bed (a huge no no) because it was his "dream hat". One day he wore it and had good dreams so he wore it all the time.

One time we were at the ATM and we didn't have alot of time, and I had the misfortunate of being behind this guy. After about 10 minutes of him not getting his money I ask him what is going on.

He's like "Iono what's wrong with it" and proceeds to swipe the card perpendicular to the card reader.

After staring in disbelief for a few seconds I help him out and swipe it for him. I then tell him to put in his pin number...nothing. So I take a guess and put in his birthday. Miraculously it works.

So, I tell him to type in how much money he wants. I swear to god, this dude typed in $43.27.

One day we were on guard duty and he proceeds to tell me that almost all of his family has had a history of severe mental problems.

Yea..and he graduated from basic.

Can't really say what is the weirdest thing I've seen. Everything is pretty weird really, when you equate it to RL stuff. Like people running around licking folks. Thats pretty disgusting.

A long ass time ago i was in RR during an invasion and a bunch of older folks slept/bound/ controlled a herd of the polka dotted bunnies or some crazy shit like that and held an impromptu wedding in the middle of town with a herd of fluffy polka dotted invasion critters running around. I bet one of you remembers it.

When I was playing GS heavy enough to have dreams in text I would also answer IMs by prefixing them with a single quote, I think we had a thread about this, because I also mentioned how I got rip roaring drunk one night and freaked out some chick over AIM by typing all sorts of commands into the AIM window (this was when I was playing EQ) everything was prefixed with /gsay and I was confused as to why I couldn't see my mana bar.

Hah. Solarbie? Yeah, she played the whole pregnancy like a year ago. It was awesome when she would put her baby carrier in her cloak and go hunting. She's one of the more annoying people I've met.

Hah, yeah she was wondering what was wrong with me after that... she knew I was a dork anyway (and I was trying to get anywhere with her) so I got over that quick enough. I was more embarrassed when a really hot chick who I'd have given a kidney too stopped by to say hi to me and I was fear kiting a wooly mammoth... "Uh... just let me... finish chasing this giant hairy elephant around". And it's not like the sounds they wooly mammoths made when you hit them were helping my case.

I've never had a Gemstone dream that I recall but after some heavy GS marathons I catch myself thinking verbs instead of actually doing them. I would think 'smile' instead of actually smiling, 'grin, 'laugh' etc...

Also with the AIM it seems people always know when you're not paying attention to the screen and just hammering in commands so when the new chat window pops up they get a whole line of w, w, w, w, go path, attack and so on. Sucks because I'm still a closet GS player even after all these years.

And I have to agree with Foxs (and her other chars) being the weirdest thing I've seen in Gemstone... Amberain and Warclaidhm tied for second.

Once in an AIM conversation I typed "whisper (person's name) (message)" And then I went back to the game without even looking.. When I looked back I saw that they'd responded with a huge smiley face and I had to look to see why..

I was in my final semester of college, taking 18 credits, working about 30 hours a week, spending way too much time in GS, and rarely sleeping. After one of my night classes, I'm sitting behind this train that is taking forever. My house is only 4 down on the other side of the tracks. The train stops, backs up. Stops, goes forward. Stops back up.

I grabbed my purse to look for the gold ring I knew I had set to home...

It was then I decided sleep was a good thing.

I tried to be teh cybering with Orobini in RR when I was like ... Nine years ago years old, about.

She, naturally, made me take off all my e-peen hindering pimp gear first to expose the rugged nakedness of my textsome husk. Then, there was a bit of an e-cockblocking incident, if you will, as she laughed in my face and left me with all my shit on the floor before, and I quote, due to the trauma of remembrance, "You are 'hung' like a rolton." I was then given a distinct lecture thereafter on the internalization of rolton reproductive organs and my distinct likeness to them.

In summation, if an Elven lass walks up to you, RL, and tells you you're hung like a rolton, she be a gold-diggin' succubi, yo.

You'd think I'd have learnt my lesson, but I've chewed on aluminum foil at least more than one time before as well...
