View Full Version : Might Dust Off My Cleric

I've been considering dusting off my 40 something cleric and playing a bit again here and there. Problem is I don't really remember shit about the class, and I'm not sure if I've even played it since GS4 other than to log in and rez someone. I remember that he's Lornon aligned, so I'll probably be staying away from undead, unless their TP costs are so ridiculously low like I'm hearing in the Virilneus thread, that I can be a badass caster and still pwn faces with a weapon.
If I were to go the pure route and just spam 302 or whatever their main attack spell(s) are these days, what would be a good overall training plan? I don't know if I have a stat reallocation available or not (account is still inactive), so if someone really feels like it, some stat placement advice would be nice too.
Is 302 still stance based? If so, how much does it matter?
How high should I go in armor as a pure caster?
What is the air speed velocity of a swallow?
What were those 2 girls thinking?
Where's Wezas?

That's a good start, minus the edge training, I did that to offset the lack of mana thru 50 trains...he's 53 now and pwning open handed, offensive on the glacier in EN. As soon as he can scrape up 250 AGBP's I'll fixskill to a pure pure. You can extrapolate a decent plan for 40 trains from that, not to mention there're things that can be expounded on for sure.

PS...302 works better open-handed...and even better in stance off...as far as I've seen. Religion lore pays good dividends, plus the lores stated above are the mins for making chrysms for raises (-religion, as that goes toward 302, 317 and I think 319).

No MIU, AS or spell aiming? Ouch...that means no imbedibles, wands, 111 and whatnot. Leather sucks when you get maneuvered too, I went to brig and ate the 7% hinderance.

More thoughts on this? In another thread we were discussing the feasability of switching from padded brig to padded doubles for clerics. (thus freeing up armor TP's to throw into another skill area)
I'm under the impression that with the same level of crit padding (HCP) that there would be:
Increased mobility due to the lighter armor class.
Less spell hindranceThe downsides I can think of are:
Increased damage factor thus non critical wounds would be more severe with those actually landed.
Increased AvD with the softer leather vs. brig, thus in effect lowering your physical DS depending on what you're hunting and the foe's weaponry. What chu tink?
I'm about to have a set of doubles padded with my premie points so I can compare it with the FGB I currently use with my cleric. I'll be sure and post my thoughts after I've had a while to (up)hunt in them.

Eh you can throw 24 ranks of MIU and Arcane into that build, but I wouldn't do spell aiming, it will eat up alot of training points. There is no need to try and master every attack form the cleric has access to. I prefer to have high spell ranks for a higher CS so that I can uphunt.
I choose doubles for no hinderance, and I rely on good stat placement and minimal encumberance to aid against manuver attacks. My prefered race for this cleric would be a halfling or forest gnome. Both are manuverable and have top tier Spirit Regeration.

I used a set of smokey greys up until this train, but was trained for brig since level 40 or so. Armor was one of the first things I wanted to get out of the way as far as his physical attributes went. I've noticed a significant drop in rounds per stun and damage taken when I get nailed in brig compared to doubles.
I'm looking at the long haul on the brig. In Maghara Tower you have major e-wave to contend with and in OTF there're the ever popular griffin drops, janisary trips, construct hugs and of course, adept motes. I'd love to have a set of FGB right now, but that'd be overkill for trali shaman spikes. I'm not really looking forward to the Black Forest yet, I'd like to pile a bit of CMs on with the points I'll save when I drop the edged weapon training.
The CvA factor on brig makes me lean that way in addition to the DF.

Just a quick observation in addition to less stun time and damage....seems that madrinol sweeps and slush e-waves tend to last longer in brig...that's probably because I was grossly overtrained for doubles. I may look into 45 ranks of armor if the CMs don't offset that, just to be on the safe side. I hate being prone and in offensive.

What are the effects of the Spiritual lores, other than Religion making 302 better? And how high would you recommend I train them?

So uh...what's good to hunt at 44 for a Bane cleric?

Shan if you're east of the Spine. Trali, vor'taz, lesser/greater faeroth if you're West of it. Those are my usual grounds for those levels.
Also, I've heard 50 ranks of Religion lore is sufficient for Bane/Smite. More may be good for 317. I've never had a cleric, so I couldn't tell you.

Went to shan, they were alright. Kind of annoying though, took a lot of casts to kill and didn't get many crit kills. Gonna go check out trali and all that stuff. Thanks again.

The lores in that training plan are the minimum needed to make every tier of deity gem (S2G, brimstone, chrism, nexus, intercession)
I have never been big into lores, I prefer using the extra points to up my CS. It has worked well for me.
Also, with the spiritual lore review that just happened, you might want to increase SMC to 1x.

Just out of curiosity Onurb, are you Voln or CoL with your cleric and that training plan?
onurb
12-07-2007, 03:13 PM
CoL, but I guess you could gain some benefits with Voln-Fu and brawling. However, at later levels, Voln-Fu isn't all that effective for professions who can only single in brawling. Voln people always have mana issues too.

Well I asked because my cleric is also CoL but was considering a very similar training path. Im still set up to swing ohb's from leveling through the first 30 days(missed the deadline for free fixskills :( ). Will probably use my yearly fixskills to take that path.
