What is your alcoholic drink of choice? If you prefer beer to mixed drinks, what kind of beer? Be as specific as possible, I'm having a party for people other than my close friends (we're used to drinking beer from a keg or shots from a shotglass) and I'd like to get some ideas as to what liquor and specialty beer to buy.

Scotch. Blended, I'm more of a fan of.

Get Sake. Do SakeBombs.

Pisco is a type of Chilean drink... but a pisco sour is one hell of a drink. Not often seen around these parts, either.

Took the words right out of my mouth.

I like brandies (grappa, ouzo, calvados, cognac), vodka and sake.
(odd I know, my theory is my preferences formed based on what was LEAST likely to get raided at the party after most of the booze was gone)

Vodka and ice. This is all that is needed.

But I'll most certainly drink a "good" rum or down a few beers should the opportunity arrive.

Theres an entire thread here on the PC for beer likes and dislikes. Sam Adams is always a winner though. As far as hard booze...You can't go wrong with Grey Goose, Stoli, or Ketel 1. I wish I could remember the name of this kick ass sipping rum I have at home. It's aged 23 years, Guatemalan, and it's a bottle wrapped up in these tan colored leaves. It's ridiculously good.

You can get a few multi packs from Sam Adams. They probably have their holiday 12 pack out now.

Also a good light and dark rum is a must to have at parties, so many things you are able to mix it with.

Since you're looking for a good party pleaser I would recommend a gin bucket. Get a handle of Seagrams (sp) Lime, two bottles of Fresna, and some fresh citrus fruit, pour it all in a bucket with ice (cup up the fruit, squeeze the juice in and then just chuck them in too). But what makes it fun is you get a bunch of turkey basters and squirt it in peoples mouths. Its a good fun way to get people drunk and to have a drink their that is accessible, tasty, and potent.

I just drink beer. I don't really have a preference, though I usually drink Pilsners

Get vodka and a variety of mixes (clamato for caesar's, lime juice, oj, cranberry juice). Red and white wine. My favorite is a locally made wine so you may have to ask at the liquor store what's the norm. Rum and a mix of coke. Staple. Sake, hell ya! A good whiskey. Some specialty beers (guinness, Harp, etc.) That should keep the crowd happy.

Depends on the type of party. You can never really go wrong with Bud Light or the equiv, since its a pretty "neutral" beer. Most people will drink it if its free.

Depending on the type of party, you could get Jagerbombs, which are pretty popular now. (shot of Jager dropped into Red Bull, if you didn't already know).

Daiquiris have always been pretty good, as well as Margaritas.

This sort of thread has been done a million times but I'd like to add a new beer to the list of good shit. I had one the other day and found it delectable.

Sadly I don't drink beer anymore and only had a few chugs of it.

Samuel Smith's Nut Brown Ale. Delicious.

Well I like beers and wines too and mixed drinks- but vodka, sake and brandies are my preference and I'll reach for either of those first.

As for parties, it does sorta depend on the crowd you have but...

As an alcoholic I rarely have a drink just to enjoy it. But when I want to enjoy it something I'll have a nice top shelf margarita or kick ass bloody mary.

Otherwise it's just well tequila and tonic or club with a lime when I'm out or vodka koolaid/coke/dr pepper/crystal light when I'm at home.

As has been said, is your party supposed to just be getting people drunk or is it a bit more social? What age group? What function (holiday, etc?)

If it's a holiday party you might consider some sort of warm bowled beverage, like spiced mead or Glogg (Swedish mulled wine, easy to make and stuff is delicious and potent).

Oh, and Irish Carbombs are a staple at any party, my friend. At least in the two Irish heavy cities I've lived in, Buffalo and Boston.

3/4 pint of Guiness, 1/2 shot Jameson, 1/2 Baileys, lit on fire, dropped in, chugged. Mmm. I prefer to pour a whole shot of Jameson in, then drop the whole shot of Baileys in without lighting it. The Baileys is what makes it start to curdle, so that has to go last.

This got me to thinking...

Negro Modelo is a pretty damn good beer. And as somebody posted, the Sam Adams holiday packs should be out by now. Generally it's pretty good.

I saw somebody mention some Jaegerbombs (not bad at all). Vodka and Redbull is always a crowd pleaser. But like other people have said, it all depends on the type of party. Do you have the "martini crowd," the "casual drinker," or the "general get fucked up crowd?"

I'm sure I'll start thinking of other shit that is mighty tasty.

STAY AWAY FROM SIERRA NEVADA PALE ALE!!!! That may just be me and a couple of people I know though. Stuff had some hideous aftertaste.

By the way, this is the 23 year old rum I was talking about.

Ron Zacapa Centenario. It's not widely advertised but it's like drinking pure satin. One of the best rums I have ever had. It's not overly expensive either, which makes it a big plus. It goes down awesome with a cigar in one hand and a snifter in the other. It's a sipping rum and thats about it. You can probably mix it, but it stands alone when put next to other rums.

Lit on fire? Umm... no, that's not an irish carbomb. I don't even think a half-jameson half-baileys shot would light.. most lit "bombs" have 151 or the like poured on top (so it's only that burning), other than lit on fire that's right though.

Flaming doctor peppers are pretty sweet too, they're a lit carbomb... beer (any kind really, don't waste a good one), 1 ounce amaretto, 1/4 ounce 151, lit on fire and then dropped into the beer, chugged fast it tastes like a Dr. Pepper.

Ok, in all seriousness.

From the beers:
Negro Modelo is awesome
Kingfisher IPA is awesome
Boulevard Lunar Ale is awesome (local special)
Sam Adams Lager is awesome
Fat Tire is awesome

From the Liquor:
Vox vodka is one the best I've ever tasted (I don't like Kettle One) for Vodka Martinis
For a Bloody Mary, I like Grey Goose or even Absolut Citron
I like Captain and Coke, even if it isn't highbrow enough for some
A good Anejo is nice too, I have a bottle of Asombroso Anejo that is so smooth it just slides down your throat and warms your stomach. I only break it out for special occasions, but it's awesome. I HIGHLY recommend Anejo to Tequila.

Seltzer, a splash of sprite, cherry vodka, and a crushed lemon slice in the bottom of the glass. <3

Well this is a "Holiday" party, and so far I've got the holiday drink down:
1 fifth of spiced rum
1 fifth of vodka
1 pint of brandy
2 gallons of eggnog
(supposed to be good knock you on your ass egg nog)

As for the type of party, it's really mixed, we have everything from a beer pong table to a dimly lit jazz room, so there will be any number of different tastes. I've seen some really good ideas so far (bought everything for jager and sake bombs, and vodka redbulls, plus bottles and bottles of wine). We also bought a huge pile of those pills that are supposed to keep you from having a hangover (we figured we'd put them in a holiday candy dish as a novelty). What do you guys think about a holiday punch bowl? Would you drink some concoction out of a bowl at a party?

Doughboy
12-03-2007, 12:56 PM
I never drink shit out of a bowl.

As far as the eggnog goes...Stop watching Martha Stewart. I got stuck watching an episode a few days ago at my moms house and she was doing this eggnog.

3 cups Makers Mark
3 cups Meyers
3 cups Cognac
There was probably two gallons or so of eggnog, it was a semi large punch bowl

Beer - Yuengling(cant beat it when its so fresh, brewery is only about 45 minutes from me) Troegs, Magic Hat, Stoudts, Victory... Mostly local breweries for me.

edit: almost forgot Lions Head and Sly Fox, guess ill add Iron Hill to the list as well. They dont bottle their beer but its a great microbrewery + great food.

Hard - Jager(bombs or straight up, love the stuff), was starting to pound gin + tonics towards the end of summer but now its too cold for that, more of a summer drink

The wife and I usually throw the same summer bash each year at our place. It's mexican themed and features my (ok, they were Tyler Florence's first) specialty margharetta (sp?).

This is NOT your mother's drink, this is your alcoholic grandfather's drink. And it might even be your alcoholic grandfather from Ireland's drink.

2 parts tequilla, 1 part triple sec, 1 part lime juice (from experience, I recommend buying the little plastic limes for the juice and garnishing with fresh limes. I spent about 2/3 of a party squeezing limes to keep the pitchers full the first night we threw said shin-dig). Then add sugar to taste.

You might want to start a taxi stand outside of your home as two of these will knock any moderate drinker on their ass.

Usually, it's jack on the rocks or jack and coke.

For other drinks I like gin and tonic and white russians-- and a white russian with butterscotch schnapps is tasty. Only problem with white russians is they tend to take a lot to start doing any damage.

I'm partial to a 1967 bottle of Pinot Noir.

It's a hard grape to grow, as you know. Thin-skinned, temperamental, ripens early. It's not a survivor like Cabernet, which can just grow anywhere and thrive even when it's neglected. No: Pinot needs constant care and attention. And in fact, it can only grow in these really specific, little, tucked away corners of the world. And only the most patient and nurturing of growers can do it, really. Only somebody who really takes the time to understand Pinot's potential can then coax it into its fullest expression. Then, I mean, oh its flavors! They're just the most haunting and brilliant and thrilling and subtle and... Ancient on the planet.

This probably won't apply if you're out of college already, but if you want to get the place bumpin, get a bunch of cheap beer (we get PBR or High Life around here), and make a bunch of jungle juice for the girls.

Jungle juice recipe - 1.5 - 2 handles aristocrat vodka (it's like $10 for a handle), 1 gallon red hi-c, 2 packs of red kool-aid. Mix it all up in a 5 gallon bucket, pour a bunch of sugar in and try some. Ideally it won't even taste much like alcohol because it's ridiculously sweet.

Every party we've done with those two things has been a great success, and relatively cheap.
