The solution is so simple.

Change your AIM preferences so that you will only accept IMs from certain people or a list of certain people. Use block or decline, rather than curiously read IMs from people you don't know.

Create a new SN for a while, and only tell people you trust, and tell them not to share -- doesn't always work, but then you have a smaller group of people to see which one(s) aren't trustworthy.

Report them to AOL or the service supporting the software.
