Well today at work, I was having weird beats with my heart.. on and off.. I kinda just ignored it.. Then I got home and it kept happening and happening.. I'm not sure how to describe it.. but it's like my heart it taking extra time for my beats or whatever.. anyone my mom used to be a nurse and she listened to my heart and told me it sounds like I might have a murmur so i'm kinda like worried right now :(

12-08-2003, 12:04 AM
heart mumurs are common go to your doctor

Heart murmur. It's a symptom for anxiety attacks, I had an irregular heartbeat a few weeks ago. It'll go away once you de-stress.

I don't know if you should worry or not.. I find at times my heart will like.. it's like it skips a beat or something and you can feel it's not normal and then it goes back to normal and just leaves you feeling a bit jumpy. It's the same thing with when I stand and get all dizzy, it passes and I don't think it's something to worry about.

Ravenstorm

Don't panic.

A very large percentage of people have irregular heart beats. The thing is, most don't ever know it.

Many people will at some point complain that their heart is 'skipping a beat' or beating out of step. Or something similar. The most common cause of it is called PVC: premature ventricular contraction. It's totally harmless.

I had a major episode of that earlier this year actually and it totally freaked me out. The thing is though that it was a side effect of a high blood pressure problem that was starting.

So, I'll recommend this:

Calm down. See if it continues. Like I said, most people never notice their heart beating irregularly (so claims my cardiologist). If it continues - especially if it is actually uncomfortable (like mine was) - go to the doctor. You'll want an ECG and a blood pressure check. They'll take it from there.

Just don't panic and wait a day to see if it subsides on its own. Chances are it will.

If, however, you experience any other symptom aside form the feeling of an irregular heart beat, make an appointment soon just to be on the safe side.

Aw, the jabs at your girlfriend upset you? Poor baby bastard. I used to think you'd be better of re-evaluating a relationship with someone who damages your credibility by forcing you to defend her idiotic actions.

Then I realized you're exactly like her.

See "Here" for details. I can't believe you're actually shocked that people don't like her. She's no different than Sean, or Bob, or Klaive, or any of the other people that are made reference to from time to time on these boards. But Sean, Bob, and Klaive don't have a spineless shithead to come here and start making nasty remarks in legitimate threads because they're upset at what was said about them.

You know they will say things.. you know they have sigs with insults in them regarding you and Atheana.. and yet you continue to come here. Grays, could you at least wait to defend yourself when something is said worth defending? No one has even mentioned you or her in a while, least of all in this thread. Let's not turn yet another thread into something about you two... please?

To stay on topic, when I was about four or five, I had a heart murmur. I was carrying around a heart monitor for quite a while just to make sure it wasn't anything serious. It certainly wasn't stress related, it just started happening. Eventually my heart rate became stable and normal, however when I did get excitable or upset it would start up again for a few years after that. My mother was usually careful about not having exposed to stressful situations if she could help it.

Just for ease of mind, have a doctor check you anyway. Even if it is something as simple as stress and will go away shortly, any heart condition, as small as it may be, shouldn't go overlooked. I'm sure there is nothing to worry about, but it's always best to be sure. Good luck with it. :)

You just look like a jackass. You and your "sweetheart" of a girlfriend belong together. For the sake of man-kind I hope neither of you can reproduce.

Your girlfriend is smaller than about 10-15% of the women on these boards. You should really take a look at the pictures and height/weight charts again.

And to stay on topic... Jenisi, stress will do that to you but you should go to your doctor anyway and get a check up just to be on the safe side. Good luck!

That wouldn't be a heart murmur... jesus. A heart murmur is something detected by a doctor, not by you feeling weirdness.

Heart palpitations, however, are what you are experiencing. I don't think you need to go to the doctor, I think you need to lay off the caffeine and stimulants and de-stress and kill some angst.

I just got worried, as my mom says, your not supposed to feel your heart, if you do, there could be a problem. I haven't felt anything since last night, I was just doing my homework and it happend once, so I switched positions and it kept happening, so I stood up, and it wouldn't stop. It kept happening for a good half an hour, but after I slept I haven't felt a thing. It could be stress considering all the problems I've had lately, and the christmas rush, and my job, and work etc. But I work out everday and that's supposed to be my "stress releavier" If I spelled that right. And let's try and stay on topic, if you want your own thread again Grays, be my guest.

Warriorbird
12-08-2003, 10:15 AM
I've experienced something similar before, myself. Going to see a doctor would probably be pretty good for your piece of mind, however, and just in case there is a problem.

When I experienced it it was the result of guarana juice, ephedra, and a nasty bout of drinking and sleep deprivation.

Jenisi
12-08-2003, 11:43 AM
Nope, I don't do caffine, I only drink water usually, but I did have a diet soda insted of water from the machine b/c it was out.. but I highly doubt that was the reason. And no, no ephedra or anything close to it.

Of all the naiive comments, especially the reference to 80% of us being fatter than someone else -- you don't have to be overweight to have heart problems. It can be a contributing factor, but it's not a given that it creates heart problems. So let's not make ignorant comments that have nothing to do with the primary concern, hmm, please?

Most likely, the "anxiety" that you feel is a panic reaction, and your body pumping adrenalin into your bloodstream. The important thing is to remain calm and go see a doctor to rule out anything major, keeping it mind it's probably nothing.

NO...but from what your GIRLFRIEND would tell us about you two...things in game and in your REAL LIFE, things that probably should have been left unsaid...and the way you guys went about handling them? Uh YEAH it's REAL EASY to make a judgement call on what type of people you two are.

Example 1: Those credit collectors still calling her and harassing her over what she said were your bills? Yeah, she mentioned that here (WHY???)

Example 2: She still calling teachers evil for not helping her land jobs when she displays irresponsibility by not attending school because "she has x amount of sick days left?" Yeah, she said that too.

If your girlfriend knew how to keep her mouth shut, you two wouldn't have the problems here that you have. But she didn't. And here you are taking stupid little pot shots every chance you get..and ADMITTING that it bugs you..CONGRATULATIONS!!! YOU JUST PAINTED A BIG OL' BULLSEYE ON YOUR BACK. Your idiotic little insults are fueling the fire, and ensuring much, much more hostility...which is something you CLAIMED you wanted to be done with. NICE GOING!!

Now THAT is TOO FUNNY

**edited to add- Unless she's lost quite a bit of weight recently, from the pics she's posted here that I've seen and on her site...she is NOT...I repeat..NOT smaller than 80% of the women here. Hell, she's bigger than what I was the day I have birth to my son. So, take off the rose colored glasses or lay off whatever it is you're smoking, wake up and smell the friggin coffee. wrong.

That's called PKU, or phenylketonuria.
Phenylketonurics don't have heart murmurs. I know this from experience.
If a person has PKU, which is a genetic trait, and consumes too much of the amino acid Phenylalanine, then the myelin sheath covering all nerve bundles in the body begin to deteriorate. That causes twitching, painful joints, and if the person allows it to go too far, seizures. Look it up.

Anyways, for the last fucking time, I'll respond to this.

...you're wrong. Maybe one or two people really care. I'm pretty certain most people really don't give two craps about what you say)..and enjoy seeing that it bothers you and her so much (which you've admitted...damn how THICK are you???) So at the end of the day, you're fueling the fire...they're going to retaliate...you and her are going to be upset...you're gonna do something stupid (like this) and no one cares. Who wins there?

I thought you'd be bright enough to grasp that.

I will say this though...if you feel the need to retaliate...wait til someone atleast does/says something to you, then deal with them. Don't be a total dick...it can come back and bite you, yanno.

I used to get that a lot Jenisi, and still feel it sometimes. I forget who said it, but it's probably a PVC, that's what I was told..

Funny thing is when I got them (Like a year or two ago I guess) it wasn't really a stressful time or anything, it was senior year in HS which was a joke in terms of stress.. Point is, I wouldn't really worry about it.

Just to make sure I'm talking about the same thing, when it happens it feels like your heart starts beating really fast and sort of takes your breath away. That's what it was like for me at least.

Ravenstorm
12-09-2003, 11:11 PM
Let me try to explain a PVC...

The heart normally beats regularly.

Da-dum. Da-dum. 1-2. 3-4.

What happens with a premature ventricular contraction is that beat #3 comes early. So what you feel is...

Da-dum/Da -dum.

Beats 2 and 3 happen almost simultaneously while beats 1,2 and 4 happen normally. So it feels like it's skipping a beat where 3 should be.

Unless it happens to occur with a doctor present, or while you're hooked up to an ECG, the only real way of determining it is with a Hulter Monitor. You wear it for 24 hours and it constantly records your heart beat. When you feel your heart beating wrong, you press a button and it makes a note of just when it happened so they can look at that time specifically.

Again, millions of people get periodic PVC so it's nothing to worry about nor is it indicative of another condition. If it repeats however you should get it officially diagnosed to be certain it's merely that.

See, this is where you're mistaken. She could have something wrong with her heart. It really has very little to do with her weight.

I understand your confused because your girlfriend looks like a manitee after Thanksgiving dinner, and her arteries are like one of those cheese-filled hot dogs they used to sell in the frozen food section. What were they called again...?

Anyways, you don't have to let your self deteriorate to a fat pile of shit who can't get a babysitting job to have a heart problem. It's just not a prerequisite.

Anyways, Jen, I think it doesn't sound too serious, but next time you have a checkup you might mention it. They would probably run some test by making you were one of those boxes that monitors you for a day. My mom had the same thing. It wouldn't hurt to get it checked out sometime, but I wouldn't race to the emergency room.

Grays, please. Jenisi started this thread because she experienced an irregular heartbeat and it frightened her. I think any of us can understand why that might be frightening. This thread is not the place to take up your problems with other posters here. If that is what you wish to do, please start another thread. Do not belittle Jenisi's problem in this way. Please.

Jenisi, as others have said, it sounds as though you may be having premature beats, followed by a compensatory pause. These are probably premature ventricular beats (PVC's) which are not that uncommon. They could also be premature atrial beats (PAC's) which are less common.

The thing to do is get an appointment with your doctor to have some blood work done to be sure there is nothing amiss. It is my guess that you will come out fine. Just avoid caffeine (soft drinks like Pepsi and Coke have caffeine in them), cigarettes (I do not know if you smoke), and try to reduce your stress levels as much as possible.

Please keep us informed as to how you are doing and what you find out. :)

If I take a normal breath, I can feel my lungs or ribcage or something pressing against my heart and makes me quiver in pain. It usually happens when sitting down for long periods of time or when lying down in bed. I tend to sit slouched and when lying in bed, curled up or on my side so I guess it's from all the pressure pushing down and inside my body, I dunno.

That happens to me too. I think (without having any doctor's approval or medical training) it's an intercostal muscle spasm, because I strained that once and that was more or less what it felt like for a good while. Tends to die down pretty quick. Of course, I could be way off base and we each have serious cardiological conditions. But I doubt it.

Tijay, don't you have magic mod powers now? Can't you just KNOW that she's better?

Hmm, I dunno. I eat lots of foods that have potassium.. beef like crazy, fresh grapefruit juice from the backyard, peanut butter a lot, and plums from the backyard too. I guess it could be a muscle spasm. If not, Lantrinsorm, let's find some wood to knock on!

JUST TO CLEAR THIS UP.

I DID NOT MAKE GRAYSHASNOPENIS.

However, he doesn't. He wore yellow pants one day and his girlfriend thought it was a Twinkie and BAM.

I have no heart murmurs, btw.

I have some, sometimes i can have those 1-2 times per day for a weak, sometimes i feel like having an heart attack, it hurts.

I took test, i'm in perfect health.

Often i think it's my heart doing that, and it's like 5 inches lower.

Stop stressing and eat meat

I was responding to Beth, Neil. That's a more common problem for girls. For you? No clue.
