no they aren't. mattacks are better against leather, mauls are better against plate. mauls also have a slight AvD advantage on plate, and a decent avd advantage against chainmail.

I always like to view what weapons generally looked like as it is a bigger deciding factor to me than DFs or AvDs or RTs or what-have-you. Often I have a specific "look" or "feel" to the character.

However, perfect forged mattocks are better than mauls across the board. Also, at present there are no glyphs for mauls, so there is not an option for a perfect forged maul.

Had a couple of cool offers, but I'm still poking around to see what's out there before buying.

I'm specifically looking for something with flares and/or a higher enchant, and would really prefer something of the "sledgehammer" variety (dare to dream, I know)

I am specifically NOT looking for anything damage weighted nor from someone named Tsin, Bubbauno or PooFace (Yes, I am well aware all three are the same person)

Mauls and mattocks (forged or otherwise) are close enough to each other in cost and efficiency that it doesn't matter to me (to me personally), it's really the crush only and the look that I'm after...

I've never felt myself sitting here in tears going "Man I wish my weapon was 2.6% more powerful!" but that's me.... not really the min/max type... I play a burghal gnome warrior if that's any indication...

Mattocks are NOT sissy. Additionally, they are quite versatile. Why, just a couple of days ago I used mine to fix my scanner...
