View Full Version : Official: Ithzir Initiate and Seer Spell Updates

Fallen

Ithzir initiates and Ithzir seers, two of the more mental monsters of Old Ta'Faendryl, have been updated to take an increasingly more proactive role in the art of player character combat. Their respective offensive spell repertoires are now less focused on disabling, and more on causing damage.

Along with this update, the Ithzir will no longer receive a warding bonus to Corrupt Essence (703), nor will they reflect mental magic as the old Forget spell.

Hunters of Old Ta'Faendryl are advised to proceed with greater caution while acclimating to these latest developments.

A shame for being mentalists they don't learn to protect their head better. I'm still setting them up with relative ease.

YeH awesome for sorcs. Do let me know if this means they've given them ''insta-noprep'' bowels, triton type spells.
That would ruin the game completely as it's the only place I enjoy hunting.

I am guessing they will be casting spells like Wither and Fervent Reproach.

Danical

Wither . . . siiiiick.

Gan
11-29-2007, 10:02 AM
Does this mean they're going to open up Seers to implosion casting?

I've suggested this for quite a while, and it will definately make hunting there more interesting.

And glad to see initiates getting a beef up.

Someone be sure to post logs of the new spells this update will bring.

Yeah, man I hate Empathic Dispel with a passion. Freaking seers.

An Ithzir initiate places one palm on her chest, and raises the other toward you!
Particles of dust and soot rise from the ground at an Ithzir initiate's feet as she releases a pulsating, platinum ripple of energy toward you!

The spell strikes the greater construct and the shimmering gold aura surrounding it flickers momentarily.
The spirits distract the greater construct's every action.

Looks like griffins got updated as well? I've never, ever gotten this much RT from them previously, from any manuever. Never more than 20 seconds.

One of the griffin's wings swats the side of your head with a stinging blow, and you reel as stars appear before your eyes!

Most additional RTs I have seen do not show the previous RT added to the current (as in they just show how much additional RT you get).

Wing slap always created anywhere from 5 to 12 seconds with my capped empath (25 ranks CM). CM did reduce the effect time with additional ranks.

RT does stack with griffin screech, wing slap, scout sweep, cheapshot, warrior shout (rarely affected me), but the worst was when I was runestaff and I'd get a 20 second disarm immediately backed up by a griffen screech or wingslap. There's nothing you can do but just stand there and take the beating...
:(

Thats another reason why shield/brawl rocks in OTF. (open handed channeling and a free hand for manuevers? and picking up shit was nice.

I'm not saying they don't stack, I'm saying you don't get-
Roundtime: 32 sec.

when you have 30 seconds of stacked RT and get 2 more... you would see-
Roundtime: 2 sec.

It has been possible to get over 30 RT since OTF opened, for those curious.

Of course, very few of you would know that since you're OTF newbs, etc. Hoho.

That's not stacked RT. He rarely gets RT from anything in there. My wizard has 101 ranks of CM, if that matters. When that happened, I was like, OMGWTF? And yeah, haste...good stuff.

Of course, very few of you would know that since you're OTF newbs, etc. Hoho.

Perhaps it's possible for someone as poorly trained as Jenovadeath, sure. Like I said, in the WHOLE time OTF has been open, I have never received RT from a manuever that's been over 20 seconds. That's GSIII and GSIV, in case you're having trouble with the timeline.

I can verify that your character was not hunting OTF at the time of it's opening, nor did I ever see your character in OTF in all of 2002. But, of course, you probably purchased your character, so. Good try attempting to cry wolf over this supposed change, however.

Verify away, because I'm not really sure how you can possibly verify anything you have proposed. I'll verify that I've had this particular character since his inception, even though that's only been since 1999 (including Meges). I can further submit to you that quite a few people with whom I've had dealings with IC are on these message boards and would have to agree with me. Hell, I even shared my accounts with Washee and Augie quite a few years ago so they could get wizard spells and I could do warrior guild training crap with Meges and Washee.

Furthermore, what the hell does you seeing me in OTF have to do with me being there? I never saw you and still don't see you. Nor do I care to. I didn't see you in the test instance either, which by the way, is not the live instance, in case you were wondering.

Honestly, I shouldn't be getting into this little trifle with you, because one thing will remain the same and it is most certainly verifiable; you're a bigoted idiot with access to a dictionary/thesaurus.

Thoroughly charming, my dear.

The point remains: I've only seen you once in OTF -- ONE time, and that was in 2006. I did not move to Ireland until 2003, so the time issue certainly was not a problem prior to that year.

I ran your name through my logs from 2000 - 2003, and of all the instances that came up (mostly your death message), none of them displayed you in the OTF area that I could see. Granted, this does not mean you truly weren't there, but I would have, proverbially and undeniably, ran into you at least once.

Looking at my logs from the opening of OTF, the regulars included:

Contesserina, Gadshill, Celtic, Starsnuffer, Brinnea (who wasn't able to hunt there, I believe, merely heal), Chazym, Tsin, Lochraven, Paragonimus, Tarakan, Sadrae, Sorchia, Angellisa, Chuckaar, Krovax, Minkster (BITCH), Zurrainn, Enchandri, Virilneus, Flame, Jamousii, Malok, Badd, Macatac, stupid Jadall,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Heartpierced, Bonehitter, Omnirus, myself, and perhaps, the biggest non-straightly-dressed person:

Xenosphere Harpsinger the Jester.
He appears to be a Giantman of the Sun Clan.
He appears to be wizened with age and very tall. He has silver-flecked crystal green eyes and golden brown skin. He has chin length, glossy blue-black hair worn in two ponytails. He has a clean-shaven face, a freckled nose and dimpled cheeks.
He has a rainbow butterfly tattoo on his leg, a tiny pink elephant tattoo on his arm, a map of Elanthia tattoo on his chest, a green quarter note tattoo on his neck, a screaming banshee tattoo on his neck, a silver lute tattoo on his finger, and a beautiful harp tattoo on his ankle.
He is in good shape.
He is holding an azure blazestar in his right hand and an engraved brass box in his left hand.
He is wearing a swirling sonic barrier, a gold ring, a shining golden armband, a crinkled pink cotton pouch, a rune-etched platinum earring, a tiny rainbow-beaded bag, a small rose, some silvery lace trousers, an engraved mithril band inlaid with a glittering emerald harp, an elegant silver alloy flagon, a woven imflass weapon harness, a shimmering rainbow cloak, some gleaming articulated gauntlets, a small Silvergate pin, a pink pearl inset gold crown, a radiant-cut pink dreamstone clasp, a pair of pink velvet slippers, a fluffy pink feather boa, a crystalline fairy pin, a rainbow quartz mask, a fluffy pink feather boa, a fluffy pink feather boa, a fluffy pink feather boa, a fluffy pink feather boa, a fluffy pink feather boa, a bas relief gold medal, and a flame-cut diamond buckle.

The bolded part is the only part that really matters. Others on these boards can verify that my wizard has most certainly been there. Also, use your damn logic if you have any. One time and that was in 2006? You're full of crap and you prove my point. I don't know how many times I've been in there and you've only seen me once. Gee, that must mean I've only been there once. Go figure. Who's absent now?

And man, I forgot I shared so many accounts with people. Morgynn (Methais' RL ex), Augie, Washee, Dyxie (Reecee), Karess, Commandant, Alyssea (the original one - Jenn), Doppelganger, Johannia, Tyekanik, and quite a few others. Don't make me start pasting PW! (kidding) Account sharing sucks even with trustworthy people.

So, in closing, you can suck my absent lollypop.

You know, that's still nothing compared to an average Sentry that spawns with DC and a CS of 451.

You can survive DC, torment goes till your dead.

Though I suppose you could always put the thing on its back right quick, and he would lose some CS supposedly. OR you gain TD one.. I forget which it is. Thats your only hope is that you can make it backfire, or dispel it somehow. Would uncurse or something work?

Thats true, distance helps ward it, not sure if more distance is better though. If you leave the actual hunting area through the portal - does that make the spell dissipate?

This is the only log (that's obviously dated - November 21, 2003) I could find of my wizard going back that far. I kept it, I guess, because it was when GSIII changed to GSIV and I did this with most of my characters. I have other logs with CS shots and whatnot, but they could be from anytime, although, the level and CS "proves" it was before GSIV. Maybe this will shut you up. He was level 117/118 pre-GSIV, add the two levels worth of EXP and this is what the end product was. OTF critters started at level ~116(GSIII)/~82(GSIV). You do the math, okay? My wizard was in this level range for a long time, because of time constraints.

A skylight two stories above allows natural light to flood this room, giving it the feel of an outdoor cafe. Set into the
grey marble pillars surrounding the atrium are metal planters filled with a variety of flowers, plants, and hanging vines. A
burbling fountain in the center of the room makes the illusion complete. Overhead, a row of black granite pillars surrounds
the upper cloister, with a gallery of stained glass windows hanging between them. You also see a variety of tables spaced
throughout the room.

Not to spark a third sorcerer thread but... like cloak of shadows isn't a powerful enough spell as it is?

It does not respond to ANYTHING but straight AS/DS swings. No spells, no maneuvers, no bolts.

It is powerful, but it certainly isn't overpowered.

You say that as if it is isn't the most prevalent form of attack in the game -- altho I'll admit it isn't a pure's biggest problem.

And you forget that Mekthros talked Elnath into adding cloak of shadows to trigger on CMAN CUTTHROAT, effectively making sorcerors immune to the CMAN.

hehe, yeah, totally off topic but as a sorceror, as/ds cloak procs off swings don't make much of a difference because whenever my ds is low enough to get hit i've just gotten nailed by a maneuver and am stunned for quite a few rounds while the swarm beats me to death (which doesn't take long at all in leather)

I wasn't calling it overpowered, I was calling it more than ample; not in need of improvement... it's one of the largest DS spells (is it the largest? .. 540 doesn't count) coupled with a handy TD bonus and a retribution chant, stackable large duration and in a circle that should be like level plus for CS anyway. In a 12th level slot.

I think the 100+ DS and a handful of TD coupled with the occasional life saver is pretty good... personally I'd say it's one of those spells you don't ask for more with just so you don't bring any attention to it and get it nerf-sticked. I admit it does suck when it gets dispelled to have all your eggs in one basket...

Fallen
12-03-2007, 03:50 PM
It only does so much. Those spells that completely remove a status ailment, or lessen the severity of the hit taken are certainly more useful in a wider range of situations. Beseech, anyone?

Fallen
12-03-2007, 03:52 PM
For people that like Cloak of Shadows, I recommend reactive armor. The stuff flares even when not stunned, AND can respond to bolt attacks. It also applies equally to offensive maneuvers, a boon for any square. It drains no mana from you, requires no training of any sort, and has 0% chance of backlash. Pretty good deal, especially for how cheaply it is obtained when looking at high-end PP services.

Izzy
12-03-2007, 04:08 PM
Slightly off topic, but with Fallen's mentioning of flaring armor, I was curious whether or not it could activate with voln fu. I assume not, because fu is pretty amazing as is. But it is a physical contact type thing, like cmans and whatnot. Anyone confirm either way?

So you're tempering a 12th level spell by saying a 35th level spell is situationally better? Like I said, I didn't call it all powerful, but if you compare it to other profession defensive spells in the same range...

712 - 113 DS, 30 SorcTD, retribution against AS/DS attacks
913 - probably the closest, 97 DS, 51 ETD, not in a great "CS" circle
313 - 75 DS at cap w/ 10 STD... "some manuever defense"
1109 - 75 DS at cap w/ 15 STD... 15 AS

Not expected to match but for comparison the hybrids:
613 - 66DS at cap and +20 TD (lores can improve)
1010 - 55DS at cap
1610 - just provides +20 DS w/ some lore bonus

So as you can see all the profession circles have different defensive spells around that level, Wizards have a pretty damn good one, but to maximize CS they'd only get 66 ranks of Wiz, and ETD isn't as desired at spiritual TD (halved ETD to get STD, vs 3/4 Sorc makes them pretty close on the STD front). It's pretty equatable, I just don't see it as needing some extra oofm when dispelled.

Cutthroat doesn't stun, it's not effected in the least. Garotte on the other hand, stuns you, and you do get backlash from the CoS.

Necromancer

But not when it's from gremlocks =(

Plus, cutthroat changes also included stone skin and wall of thorns. It wasn't just a CoS issue.

The only reason the spell offers so much benefit is that it is the ONLY defensive spell in the 700's circle. They had to fit it all into 1 spell. Like you said, makes life a real bitch when it is dispelled. AND, the mana costs are sliding. You are aware of this, right? 712 maxed out costs 41 mana per pop.

What is the difference between all your DS from that circle coming from one spell that grows over time, or 2-3 spells that grow over time?

The only improvement I would see to CoS is that the spell responds to archery, and spell based bolt attacks. Elemental flaring armor does so, and if a set of armor imbued with cold can do it, I think a sentient demon living in the mana flows can figure this shit out too.

Haha. No, a cleric just whines to his patron who laughs at him and does nothing, while a paladin just whines and his patron gives him a get out of any bad situation for 35 mana button. If he STILL fucks up and dies, the Arkati will go love tap the bastard that killed him. A wizzie just goes back in time and dodges that shit.

I likes Divine Vengeance, as useless as it is.

Celephais
12-03-2007, 11:18 PM
Scaling mana cost is negligable... the duration of the spell more than makes up for that (several of the ones I listed scale as well). Anyway of all people you know that sorcs most powerful defensive spell isn't 712... it's 714 ;-)
