Yo yo, hey all, anyone have any suggestions on a good way to re-arrange my skills, currently I have a 49 lvl cleric with the following stats and skills.

I'm fine with how the casting aspects are for training, but unsure to what to do with armor, shield use and edged / brawling.

Was thinking of having a 1x shield and brawling, to keep an open hand and take a different path than with runestaff. In terms of armor just was planning on keeping full leather.

I want my cleric to remain very pure (since that's where it's headed, but I like the idea of being a war-ready cleric...not some pansy in a robe...no offense)

Any suggestions?

Aim for crit padded doubles or crit padded brig. My cleric is wearing brig at 7% hindrance.

Shield/Brawl will give you lots of options and yet allow you to remain a pure caster.

Armor Use..........................| 40 8 8 (take to 35 ranks if going brig)
Shield Use.........................| 82 18 18 (1x)
Edged Weapons......................| 150 50 50 (drop)
**add Combat Manuevers (.25x is good since this is expensive)
Brawling...........................| 151 51 51 (1x)
Physical Fitness...................| 105 25 25 (is this the max HP for your race? if not add more ranks)
Arcane Symbols.....................| 120 30 30 (ok)
Magic Item Use.....................| 120 30 30 (ok)
Spell Aiming.......................| 202 102 102 (keep for 306/111)
Harness Power......................| 150 50 50 (ok)
Spirit Mana Control................| 151 51 51 (why so many ranks? clerical benefit I'm not thinking of?)
Spiritual Lore - Blessings.........| 70 15 15 (someone chime in with chrism requirements, I dont have my lore page saved at work)
Spiritual Lore - Religion..........| 150 50 50 (see above)
Spiritual Lore - Summoning.........| 25 5 5 (see above)
Perception.........................| 50 10 10 (eventually you'll want this for DS ambush pushdown. I recommend .5x)
*add First Aid if points allowable
Climbing...........................| 90 20 20 (bump to 25?)
Swimming...........................| 74 16 16 (bump to 25 for OTF, more for Teras Temple by cap)

Thanks Gan, quick question. Is using a blunt weapon still a good option for clerics anymore, or is it basically pointless and expensive, given the use of Voln-Fu and spells?

I'll use a blunt weapon until I have the mana and CS high enough to convert to hunting solely with magic. I prefer having a shield/weapon at these levels because of the higher DS (that and I still have my 8x shield). Once over 250ish mana capacity then I'll probably be at a point where my 300 circle has caught up to my level justifying the focus on magical hunting rather than swinging. Then I'll fixskill to a shield/brawl. And if I ever get another society reset (I've used up all my resets on this formerly experimental character) I'll quit COL and go voln for the voln-fu thus negating any need to swing a weapon or worry about one being disarmed. That will give me offensive weapon types of voln-fu, CS based attack spells, and 111 (AS based attack spell).

Clerics get a nice boost to AS through their circles, and if you look hard enough, you can find some nice mid to high level weighted blunts. I'm currently using a 5x swcw warmace thats sancted.

Keep in mind that my cleric is only 34 currently. I'm also basing a lot of my long range goals on what I experienced with my previously owned 100 level empath (OTF hunter) and 89 rogue (picker/OTF hunter).

At higher levels your CS is whats going to be your money maker (especially after witnessing Naseer hunt). You'll find that its way easier to beef up your DS than TD, ergo as an opponent having a high CS will in a majority of the time be to your advantage. (and having the mana to use the offensive spells you have)

if you have wands and spells and fu and brawling, no need for blunt.

smc affects a few clerical spells, namely 319, which will be one of your 2 good swarm spells. though you could drop it to the min 102 bonus to keep from failing raises. lores, 40 is good religion to help with your cleric spells, though min for chrism is 25., 10 blessings is all needed for intercession and chrism, and bring summoning up to 20 so you can use web bolt since you already have the aiming. though i do recommend putting more into it, summoning provides a lot of benefits to a lot of your spells.

Later on i'll post what my build at 49 was. Could manage in darkstone fairly easily, stronghold only problems was boil and stone fist, and bonespear was cake, minus running out of mana. easily solved with wands, though.

Unless something has changed that I missed, 24 ranks in PT is max for every race concerning HP. However, if your CO is not maxed, then you won't have max HP for your race. If you have 100 CO, no matter what race, 24 ranks in PT will give you 100% of your health. If you have 24 ranks in PT, but not max blood for your race, then you have to wait for your CO to raise for your HP to raise.

I'm looking at dropping down to doubles of equivalent crit padding (HCP).

Doubles with older clerics, whats the general opinion?

When you get up there, and hunting gets more mana-intensive, i do prefer doubles, even though i'm trained for brig. 7% may not seem like much, but it seems to strike at the worst possible moments. Plus, although i don't use HCP on either my brig or my doubles, I seem to live through (not dodge) more manuver attacks with doubles. Could just be a lucky day, though.

I"m going to have a set of doubles padded with my premium points and hunt in those for a while to see if I see any difference.

The first time you go out again with the brig and fail a sanct or fog cast, you'll be right back into doubles.

And if not, you can donate them to me :)

Thats my problem right now. Mana is a premium with me being level 34. So when I do fail with brig (7%) its usually when I'm trying to fog or locate which use up my available mana pool so fast that it interrupts the fluidity of my rescues.

I think I'll like doubles, I was contemplating that very idea with my capped empath before I sold him, but with over 400 mana, a little failure every now and then did not matter much.
