View Full Version : The New EXP changes, why?

I'm real curious why they would superboost all our characters toward cap, with the new AG/absorption changes I've probably halved my time to get to cap... if I calculated right, actually its probably more then halved. Is this some ploy to attract more players? Warden doesn't do anything without real good reason especially something this drastic. Debate.

Your numbers might be off. People are experiencing like a 3-6 exp boost per pulse. Hardly halfling the time to cap.

Getting 500-600 instantaneously every 15 mins from bounty skills makes a huge difference. Normally that 500-600 experience requires 20-25 minutes of resting.

This change allows 2400 exp an hour ON TOP of what you can absorb normally (with larger tasks that is)

PS, we've all played gemstone too long when you read "halfling" and read it as "halfing", and have to double check 2-3 times to make sure you're not losing your eyesight or going crazy.

True, I was just saying with the most optimal conditions.

even at as little as 1200 an hour thats like an extra 40 exp per pulse, averaged out. Thats like...nice

I blast through all my bounty tasks retarded fast and I probably only finish one every 25 minutes or so.

depends on your level and hunting ground. As i've leveled, i've gone from taking 30ish minutes per task, to several levels of ALWAYS finishing before the 15 minute timer is up, and back to a more modest 15-20 time. I expect to be back to the sub-15 minute time in a little bit as i slide into a new creature bracket.

Nelemar tasks generally take longer for me because I start getting crazy encumbered with all the boxes they drop.

And, if you have sentry, GWE, magus tasks . . . death can be common.

Halfing isn't a word. Halving is. Both of you are dumb.

I don't know, Gnimbles... I can rip through most Temple tasks and be back before the 15 minute timer. This is gonna be an insane boost to a lot of people.

Fallen
11-21-2007, 08:30 AM
I think it is an insane boost to those near/at cap, which is nice as it allows us to see more advancement to our characters, but for people not yet near cap, or squares who just plain take longer to hunt, it doens't do much for them.

I can understand the super node changes, but I can't make sense of the Adventurer's guild changes. At all.

Yeah, going through OTF reps is ridiculously fast once you hit 90+

This game is dumb.
Wait... the fact that it used to take on the order of half a year total play time to cap, where most of that is spent sitting around not doing anything, or the fact that they've changed it so you're not sitting around not doing anything as much and reduced total time to cap?

I agree with celephais, now even more so you can play how you want. If you want to kick back, hunt for 3 minutes and rest for 25 you can do that. Or you could be busy every minute of every hour working on your AG tasks and leveling faster than before. Only thing i don't like is that you should be able to share AG tasks because AG stuff tends to promote solo play imo.

This change does however suck for people who'd do one bounty to get saturated and leave the comp for an hour and suck it ALL up on xxx as opposed to 1/3 of it being xxx and the other instant exp. No more lazy bounties for me :(
IE
say a bounty gives you 1000 exp
oldstyle it's 3000 exp on first half of gift while i'm off dicking around the house or doing stuff in class
now it's 666 exp plus (333 x 3) of gift 1665 exp instead of 3000 =/ I guess it will stretch gift out a little bit more though.

Some Rogue

Is anyone actually get the 3x on the immediate part of the gift? I sure wasn't last night.

Jayvn

no, and that's the Warden catch of it.

Latrinsorm

no, and that's the Warden catch of it.I love that phrase.

What still strikes me as odd is XXX shrunk the gap pretty noticeably (though obviously not completely) between powerhunters and semi-casual players. This change seems to go very much in the other direction (regardless of the stated goal).

I'm sure they're keeping their eyes on it, we'll see how it develops.

That's my point. Wtf are they doing.

I don't know, I have my tasks set for the hardest, so my AG tasks usually take a while to do when i make an appearance in the landing.

We are implementing some changes to experience and absorption, primarily to encourage more player interaction. These changes include the following:

Enhanced Experience Absorption In Major Gathering Places -- Major gathering locations in every major realm (see list to follow) will now enhance your rate of experience absorption, above and beyond what a normal node will provide! While most of these nodes are public, all CHEs will also receive this benefit in the Common Room (or equivalent) of their primary house (not annexes). MHOs may coordinate with their guru to purchase an enhanced node for a Common Room (or equivalent) in their building, provided the room is either open to the public or the MHO is sufficiently large and active to support a "members only" location.

Adventurers Guild Bounty Rewards -- The total amount of the experience rewards will remain the same; however, two thirds of the reward will be granted directly to your absorbed experience. The remaining one third of the reward will be granted as unabsorbed experience, as it is currently.

Logic Bonus Changes -- The benefit of Logic bonus on experience absorption has been changed from a multiplier of the base amount to an addition to the base amount. When on a node or in town, you will absorb an extra (Logic Bonus/5) experience every pulse. When in a hunting area, you will absorb an extra (Logic Bonus/7) per pulse. For most players this will result in a small improvement while on a node and no significant change when in a hunting area.

Enjoy!

So they reduced the amount of exp you could gain on bounty tasks to make people stop doing the solo stuff as much?

Fallen
11-22-2007, 01:28 PM
I'm not sure why they did that. Power gamers will just complete bounty after bounty and come out ahead.

AestheticDeath

But you aren't getting XXX for 2/3s of it... Did absorbing the other tasks just take so long that they didn't do 3-4 tasks an hour already? Seems to me it shouldn't take more than 10 or so minutes to drop to fried or under that, and do another task even before they reduced the amount going to your bucket.

Fallen
11-22-2007, 02:12 PM
Yes, it takes a while to put away 1k EXP, now you get 2/3 of it instantly absorbed, so you unsaturate in a few pulses. I think the best way to maximize gains from the changes is simply to complete one task, then immediately head back out and complete the other ASAP, don't even wait to unsaturate. You will get more EXP by completing the task then you would between the difference of being on a node versus off a node. Well, at cap, atleast, and especially in the Temple.

These changes have me thinking about getting skinning related skills so I can just hoard skins and turn them in immediately.

As a casual gamer I like the change. My Gemstone experience since returning has been to get a fry and go to node alt-r and surf the web until my mind is low enough. Only reason to play while resting was to unload loot, look for massies, or rebuff myself.

Edit: Er, didn't read the description correctly, not getting XXX for 2/3 of it sucks :(
