Hearing sirens real loud outside your house and instead of hearing them recede in the distance (dopplar effect) you notice that they stop abruptly.

Then you see lots of red lights and the sound of running diesel engines outside your front yard.

At 4:45 AM in the morning, this morning.

House across the street burned down. Elderly couple inside, the man got out, the woman was not ambulatory and remained inside until crews could get into to get her out. No word on her condition, last I knew she was still at the nearby hospital.

Fire response escalated from routine 2 pumper/1 ladder/1 supervisor to 4 pumpers/2 ladders/3 ambulances/2 supv. + capt. and asst. capt./heavy rescue truck/and mobile O2 unit. They were lined up for almost 2 blocks either direction. And now there are umpteen arson investigators rummaging through the house because it involved a victim.

:(

Not a good morning for a birthday morning.

Happy Birthday Gan!

Also, that sucks. I don't remember what part of town you live in but I'm sure all I have to do is look through chron.com or something and I'll find a story about it. Sucks!

Wow, that took me all of 30 seconds. I'll be stalking you soon.

Yeah I just Googled pretty much exactly where you live based on that story rofl. You live a few blocks from Sharpstown mall, LOL. Gross. I'll stalk someone who lives in like the Heights or Sugar Land or something.

Ok to be fair I switched to the Satelite image and the neighborhood doesn't look that bad. But still, cross Fondren and you're in ghetto-land.

Lol I guess. But he's white collar, he should be living outside the beltway like decent people.

LOL Drew.

This was a quick buy for us when we moved back from Denver. In about 4 years we'll turn it into a renter as we want to move to the memorial area. And yes, the taxes are dirt cheap as well as our mortgage which is handy with the wife being in post-grad school.

And yes, you cross Bellaire or Fondren or Gessner and you're in some risky areas for now. I'm waiting to see Sharpstown mall bought up by the same investors that remade Sugarland and are now remaking Town & Country. Once Sharpstown mall is bought you'll see property values jump dramatically.

The other plus is that I'm 2 blocks away from the municipal golf course which is quick and cheap to grab 18 holes whenever I feel like swinging a club.
