Barring some very odd update to the treasure/gem system of which I am unaware, I found my very first boxfound just now...

You remove a deep blue eostone carved with the image of a frolicking snail from in your wooden trunk.

Just a gem worth 1200ish silver..but I was still thrilled to find SOMETHING.

Wonder if this is coincidence, but I recently found a pinworn pocketed vest with a show, it was made with snails for buttons, and had a tag on the inside with the name "Speedy the Snail", found it in a warfarer box if I remember correctly.

Could be someones favorite animal

He's talking about the new treasure updates and him finding his first new item that were the result of those changes. Not his first box find EVER. Hehe. I had to read it twice too. ;)

No, he's talking about his first boxfound kiddies. He was being sardonic, implying facetiously that it was possible that this eostone con frolicking snail was now a staple treasure item.

Geez *shakes head*

Uhh, what?

I have had several different characters before Evarin, but only one of them got beyond level 20, and the other ones were more concerned about killing Thyrils than anything else. I only play 1 character now, and this is my first ever "box found", as in an item a GM specifically made and put into the hopper. An Eostone is not an EN gem, atleast not the Old Ta'Faendryl/Illistim area, so I am fairly sure it is a boxfound.

I've never found a GM boxfound item in my years playing.

Though it used to piss me off when I had my picker when I'd constantly open up boxes for other people to find all sorts of nice stuff (weapons/armor/shields/etc).

My little Erithi cleric found this earlier this week in a box from a shelfae warrior:
a silver choker inlaid with a cinnamon amber teardrop encasing a tiny butterfly

Buncha charges of Thurfel's Ward, and apparently rechargable. Woooo. I'll probably just use it for alter fodder for the cinnamon amber.

The random generated box treasure is different from something a GM specifically created and put in a box.

I'm pretty sure I never found one in all my years. Tons of that randomly generated box treasure shit though.

I've had a couple of neat boxfounds, mostly VLA cloaks with long descriptions and some ugly shrimp toy thing with a show. My favourite so far is a luxuriant reddish-gold firecat mantle lined with ebon spidersilk. Rolled up a firemage on the back of that one and have loved her ever since.

That's still a pretty cool item. I've never found anything nearly so nice.

-Mage rechargeable locate person- would only locate himself. That's why he's laughing about it now.

On a side note, the only boxfounds I ever find are ugggggggglllyyy rolton hide/kobold skin style alters that I swear the GM's are just laughing and tossing in my boxes.

Windare (a relative's char) found a mage rechargeable phoen's strength item hunting a few weeks ago. Not sure if it was GM generated or just part of the treasure system though. Since it was a fairly simply designed talisman.

Cavyr (another relatives char) used to find box-founds all the time pre GS-4.

Yeah, although while hunting with someone years back, we did find a set of 4x somewhat crit padded double leathers in The Deep Freeze. They had an amazing show on them. I think I actually bought them for Vinsant, I'll have to get on and post it later. Something about the Ur-Daemon war and some Drakes. I want to say the person was Elminstir, but don't remember for sure.

I got my first box-found a couple months ago. I think a GM likes putting snail items in the treasure system.

You remove an iridescent glass snail pin from in your leather scroll case.
>look at pin
The pin is filled with crystal clear water and a trio of jewels that glisten in the light.
Crafted from ametrine-hued glass with a distinct iridescence, the snail has delicate eye stalks and a tightly spiraled shell detailed with faint traces of silver.

TILT: You tilt your pin from side to side, causing the jewels to slide through the water.
TURN: As you slowly turn the pin in your fingers, glimmers of light play off the water.
RUB: You meticulously rub your pin, polishing off any and all smudges.
TAP: You gently tap your pin, visibly disturbing the water.

About a month ago, I found these:

You glance down to see a pair of red snail-stitched gloves in your right hand and nothing in your left hand.
>look glov
Each bright red leather glove has its seams stitched with brass-hued thread in a crisscrossing pattern. A colorful cave snail has been embroidered on the back of each glove, surrounded by a circle of grey. Affixed on each glove's wrist is a tag that bears several words in block letters.
There appears to be something written on it.
>read glov
In the Common language, it reads:
~ Speedy the Snail Styles and Fashions ~

It would be cool if the GMs released set items that had powers when combined together... manage to collect all of the speedy the snail boxfounds released into the treasure system and together they become a self-mana haste item!

The cool factor would come from the fact that you would actually have to get random people to work together/with each other on an item they do not yet know the properties of. Oh the backstabbing fun.

I think items like that should be leased, in order to keep them from being lockered or leaving the lands. There is an auction, and you bid to own an item for 1 year. At the end of 1 year the items are returned, whether your accounts are active or not.

Of course, this wouldn't be how EVERY high-end item is released, or even a large minority. However, it would be something new and interesting.

Everyone knows the only good items are those with no limitations or drawbacks whatsoever and they also have to be totally unique and impossible to lose and provide overwhelming combat advantages otherwise it's nerfed pointless crap. Of course Warden hates Gemstone so he never lets items like that get released.

The nice thing about a leasing system is we already basically have the IG mechanic for it available: Chronomages! One year and yoink city!

My first boxfound was my "A courtly raven-hued greatcloak" A friend of mine had found "Some courtly raven-hued pants" earlier that week and gave them to me.

After that the only two boxfounds I have are from the switch to GS4 where they had to empty the hoppers - I found a:

name: A piece of thin carved bone
show: A piece of thin bone has been carved into the likeness of a snake. It is thin and flexible enough to make an excellent lockpick.
Excellent condition, Average level of precision (Glaes), incredibly strong. Bone has never been repared.

and then "A burnished gold neckchain made in a pattern of intertwined circles of golden ivy and vines".

The bone is pretty cool and the neckchain I've never had sung to so maybe it raises dead people and I wouldn't know.

You ever watch some of the folks with those kinds of things hunt?

Wadsworth, Ardwen/Ydwen, Giantsheild, Rasulis, Jaelus/Tamral, Nighthawk, Silkie, Thalior, Jesh, Reife

Attacking strength of someone 20-30 levels above themselves, defenses up the wazoo, one shotting everything 15 levels above them. It was unbalancing, but I think it has been ridiculously overcompensated for, took a lot of the appeal out of the game.

Game balance in a non-pvp game is just stupid. If you're going to make me work for months just to gain a level at least let me have a chance at some fantastical loot that might make it easier.

And thats why I prefer WoW.
Balance goes clean out the window. Classes are balanced, but not balanced against one another in any way shape or form. Spec makes a much bigger difference. PvP is more entertaining and tactical, because 1v1 means nothing except in the twink brackets. Granted, there is no Setzier?s eye, but the overall difference between T6 prot and like level DPS plate and the crap people get questing/karazhan/gruuls is insane.

My friend and I found a set of imflass platemail with a show.. I have yet to have it sung to to find out anything more about it.

You remove some burnished imflass platemail from on an armor stand.

This armor shines with a luster that indicates devotion. Not a single speck of corrosion mars the polish of the silvery-blue imflass plates that make up the suit of armor. Even the leather fastenings on the platemail are well-oiled and lustrous, held in place by immaculate silver-plated buckles. Despite the appearance, the armor appears to be battle-ready.

Careful examination indicates the imflass platemail has a base strength of 89 and a base durability of 705. You also determine the current integrity of the imflass platemail to be at 100.0%.
