Posting Guidelines

If wishes were horses, the whole world would be up to its armpits in horse crap. Nevertheless, the following are my wishes for this topic:

1. That everyone think a moment before posting. Are you on topic? Is what you have to say pertinent? If not, please refrain.

2. Does every other sentence require a vulgarity to give it meaning? I did not think so. ;)

3. Please do not post here if your sole intent is to insult someone. I think we all know exactly what I mean by this.

4. Unless your one-liner will add something worthwhile to the ongoing conversation, try it out elsewhere, eh?

Now, if all my stated wishes come true, I will need a large shovel. Horses eat a lot!:D

HarmNone thanks you all!

~wails~ It's censorship all over again!

HarmNone

Heh. No, Leloo. Not from me. I am not fond of censorship myself. However, I think we can all do with a little bit of reflection over what we post, when we post it, and where we post it.

What I am doing here is asking you, the posters, to take a moment to censor yourselves. By doing that, we make the boards more enjoyable for everybody, eh? :D

HarmNone makes a lousy censor

That's not too bad I guess... I just hate the idea of censorship in all forms. I feel it restrains free speech.

12-07-2003, 12:05 AM
and now we watch the post counts lower even more

If you will but read what I wrote, and not read into it, you will find that I have not laid down the law anywhere. I have simply asked you guys to reflect before you post. That is not censorship. It is a request.

HarmNone's isn't that bad... they are requests.. Artha's frighten me.

12-07-2003, 12:13 AM
your request to reflect is underwritten with the fact that even though you do not like censorship you will if you have to

Actually, I think MY post counts will go up again. I've no reason to insult, bash or tear into anyone here.

I've noticed that almost every thread has ended up being pointless, off topic squabbles fueled by the crowd.

Maybe moderating in moderation isn't working at this point so the Mods have stepped up. In the end, with the current mods, I see the boards getting back on track and fulfilling their original purpose.

Heh. Nowhere within what I said will you find mention of deleting posts, editing posts, or closing threads. For me to do that, something very serious would have to be involved. Normally, I just give you guys a gentle nudge and you have always been cooperative. I see no reason to assume you will not continue to be. Nor is there reason for you to assume that I will not continue to be as I have always been. These guidelines are just something to go by. We do get new folks, too, ya know! ;)

If I HAVE to, you can bet your bippy I WILL, Edine. So far, I have never found it necessary. :)

It doesn't sound like she's trying to censor anything. She's simply asking everyone to use some comon sense, and comon courtesy.

Edited to fix a LOT of spelling.

Exactly, Camri. I do not foresee any problems, really. We have gotten along just fine in here. :D

HarmNone is happy here

don't worry...I speak blonde.

There should be some guidelines. Most do respect guidelines. Ocasionally, we all stray. It's a catch 22.

Free speech is a phrase that is often bandied about, held out like a badge, as if it entitles the wearer the right to say anything.

Well, you might have that right to say anything, and surely, we all have.

I think all that HarmNone is saying is that just because you CAN say doesn't mean you SHOULD say it.

I could quote a lot of cliches and platitudes, about never having anything nice to say, so say nothing. I'm sure most of us have gotten that from our parents. But it so easy to forget or dismiss when it's far easier to use words to tear down people for little to no reason at all. I'm not blameless or guiltless of doing so, and neither are many of you.

So it's not about your right to say anything, it's about whether, as a mature human being, you ought to say it.

Case in point, the thread started up the other day about Beth (Maimara), which was nothing more than a personal attack of the lowest kind.

On the bitch boards, people frequently bring what they believe to be valid gripes about characters in the game. Not their players, their characters. When it becomes a comment about the players, we all should think twice before we hit that post reply button.

Agreed, talking about the player distrubes me. Believe it or not, sometimes I do roleplay warclaidhm. And in some ways the player and the characters are the same, other times, not. You can't really get to know someone fully over the internet, but really when you start attacking people (the player) for whatever reason, its wrong.

It upsets me that people say They hate me (The player) and warclaidhm. I dont mind if they hate warclaidhm, its just a game. But saying they hate me when they don't even truly know me is wrong, this goes for anyone.

You can follow these steps to help you:

1) Think about before you say it. If you just say fuc* in every sentence its alot easier to cuss someone out to express your emotions rather then to tell them really how you feel.

2) Think about the consquences of what you say before you say it. If I say this, what will happen? How will people view me? What is the reaction?

hope that helps

I agree with the first, but I think you're off the mark with the second. People should say what they feel. If someone won't say something because they're worried about how they will be viewed, it makes it hard to trust anything they say. Not to mention the self-confidence issues involved.

Uh, these boards have survived a hell of a lot worse than a suggestion by a mod to keep a folder on-topic and swear-free.

And Des ka, stop trying to suck up.
