I am having a mechanics issue with my DS.
+27 chain shirt is appearing with 4 less DS than +25 brig.
Someone suggested dodge penalty. Anyone care to shed some light on the situation?

Action penalty on brig is -12, Chain shirt is -13. It's not the action penalty.
If you're looking at AvD ... well that's obviously the problem, otherwise you need to consider things like encumbrance, room factors (some rooms have DS bonus) and um... well I"m out of ideas.

Armor inhibits dodge to a certain extent. Still very worth it to wear heavier armor.

You get a slight DS bonus in lighter armor, this is usually countered in AvD anyways so thats the only "DS" bonus you see. It is more obvious if you switch say, from plate to light leather.
Your better off in the chain, especially with the DF, AvD's, and CvA bonus. heavier armor is always better.

Ack, I mis-read what he was saying, I thought he was saying he was seeing 4 less DS in the brig... yeah as has already been said, ignore what I said.

The dodge penalty due to armor is (1- action penalty/2). Thus, you have .5% more dodge penalty in chain than brig. I'm pretty sure more is going on than just a higher dodge penalty, though, because it would be very difficult for that level of difference to result in 6 less DS. My guesses are 1) encumbrance (perhaps due to lighter-than-base brig or heavier-than-base shirt) and 2) wearing an armor accessory.
To be completely accurate, you do not get a DS "bonus" for light armors, you just get less of a penalty.
Finally, it turns out that chain (especially chain shirt) isn't always better than rigid (especially brigandine). You will always get a higher crit divisor on the torso, but you will sometimes get a better DF with rigid and almost always get a better AvD (distinct from the aforementioned dodge penalty dealie).
