I'm really looking forward to this movie. I've mentioned the books to some friends and they had never heard of them. I do rather wish I had not read them first though since I get a little critical of movies after reading the book. Hopefully they do the series justice.

And a warning for those that might be offended by anti-religious stories:

It's got whats his name, the new James Bond dude, which is enough of a reason for me to see it. And Loony Tunes ex, Nicole Kidman. I like when she plays evil.

and wtf...I did the little quiz on that link to figure out what my own daemon would be and it said a spider. Jesus, stupid test.

Man It's literally been probably over 10 years since I read that book. I'm going to re-read it!

And yay for the movie!

I saw the previews for this and thought it was the sequel to Chronicles of Narnia. The riding Polar bears thing did it, I think.

my wife ended up reading all 3 books, pretty much didn't put them down. I'm curious if the movie will smash all them into one story or go with the trilogy

Daniel Craig? He'll probably be Lord Asriel.

Wow, I usually know what's coming out soon but I totally missed this one. I agree with Phillip Pullman > J.K. Rowling. Time to re-read the trilogy, again.

Terry Goodkind beats em all, but I'm just kinda a preacher of the Sword of Truth

but then again I read that after the Wheel of Time, so it wasn't a hard act to follow

Sword of Truth and Wheel of Time both suffered quality declines as time passed, despite some great brilliance early on.

I liked that His Dark Materials was just a trilogy.

I read this series in Namibia, and maybe my brain was overloaded working in Africa, but I totally didn't pick up on the athiestic themes.

Alok...by intelligence test standards I'm pretty sure you're quite a bit smarter than me... did you totally miss the third book?

I don't really remember the third book, tbh. Wasn't there something about a floating castle in the sky or something?

I do remember the whole "The Magistereum is evil" thing, but I thought that was more a condemnation of hierarchical authority than God or even religion.

The author has clearly stated his "books are about killing God". Granted, that could be just out of context as I've not read the interview.

I think that while people like to focus on his lack of belief and probably read more into the books than what is there ... he's making a valid point without really trying.

There were some rumblings Lewis and Narnia, but flip the coin and people want you dead.

I have no idea what this book/movie is about, but the armor-wearing polar bears on Myspace.com's homepage are AWESOME!!!

This movie fucking rocked, I had to hold back yelling out OH SHIT at the end of the ice bear one on one fight..due to kids being in the crowd. and the witches were awesome.

and apparently I have a female mouse named Mayra

I'll see it eventually for the bear fight. Supposed to be about the most visceral CGI ever.

The CGI was pretty damn good but the story felt a bit rushed.

My daemon is a male fox named Pyrrheus and he looks adorable.

According to this I'm modest, inquisitive, solitary, dependable and spontaneous.

I haven't read the books but I wouldn't mind taking in the movie.

My daemon is a male lynx named Calanon.

I really enjoyed the movie, I just wish there was more. Mostly because I hate waiting. The lord of the rings trilogy almost killed me.
