a wyrwood rattle

The rattle has been finely crafted from a single branch of thick dark wyrwood. It is no more than eight inches in length. Small holes have been carved into one end while a shrunken aishan skull adorns the base of the rattle's handle. The menacing stare upon the aishan's face makes it evident that a live one would be a fiersome opponent.

shake rat at imp
1d100: 73 + Modifiers: 130 == 203

You shake your rattle at your alabaster white imp in three quick motions, causing a blinding flare of kaleidoscopic light. A soupy wisp of refracted colors seep from your rattle, piercing directly into the heart of the imp. The imp gasps for air desperately as it transforms into a stooped and wizened gnoll.

shake ratt at gno
1d100: 74 + Modifiers: 117 == 191

You shake your wyrwood rattle over a stooped and wizened gnoll, causing a kaleidoscopic burst of refracted colors. The chimerical form of the imp begins to melt away into a wispy montage of color, which is forcefully pulled into the eye sockets of the aishan skull mounted onto your rattle.

Permanent illusion for demons. Will last until they leave the lands.

You can also shake it at folk.

shake rattle at XXX
You shake your wyrwood rattle spasmodically at XXX, from which issues forth a smattering of sparkling grey dust. Light refracts oddly around XXX for a moment, creating a vivid kaleidoscope of colors, but it soon fades. XXX does not seem amused.

The rattle doesn't have to be in hand to shake it at something. I'll open my container shake it at whatever, then close my container.

Illusions for demons?

Having not played a sorc for too many years, anyone want to clue me on on what this does?

Normally, a sorcerer would have to master illusions in the sorcerer guild to cast an illusion on their demon. But this illusion is only temporary. With the rattle its permanent, and you don't have to do guild work to get good use out of a demon.

In some towns you can't bring your demon in it without an illusion around it, or else you'll be breaking the law. If you ever see "a robed figure" that's what you're seeing.

Not to mention that mastering illusions is an extreme pain in the ass.

Hopefully Spendel doesn't mind but here is the Loresong if anyone cares:

Raising your voice to a rich timbre, you are able to discover that the rattle is a very valuable treasure shrouded in ironic tragedy, but you fail to learn much more.

The history of your wyrwood rattle is given up easily as you soothe the rattle with a a catchy song. Your eyes fill with a scene from deep inside some unkown forest. Standing in the center of a wooded area is a large compound built into the muddy ground below. Running out of clever rhymes, you end your song.

Singing to your wyrwood rattle forces it to take you back to the compound that you just discovered. You think that your eyes deceive you as you begin to see through the actual compound as if it had been phased into some otherwordly existence. A tall hooded figure enters the compound, obviously out of place amongst the gnomes scurrying around. You end your song as you begin to contemplate the odd scene before you.

It is not too difficult to learn about your wyrwood rattle as you construct beautiful songs to unravel its mysteries. Your world becomes a shaky blur until you notice the figure, this time revealing his human face, is standing in front of a wizened gnome. Proudly, the gnome presents several well-crafted wyrwood rattles to the figure. Looking pleased, the figure lays out several shrunken skulls before the gnome. You recognize an aishan and abyran skull among them as your song ends.

You begin singing in a familiar key to your wyrwood rattle. The wyrwood rattle reponds by showing you the wizened gnome, hastily insetting the shrunken aishan skull onto one of the rattles. Upon completion he presents his creations to his patron, who shakes them each vividly. Small surges of dust emerge but dissipate just as quickly. He waves the aishan-crested one, causing a fearsome maw to materialize in the air. The gnome takes aback frightened, but the visage soon disappears. Delighted, the human figure says, "You've done well, here is your reward..." as he places a gold and brass intertwined ring on the table along with a sack of coins. With those words, your vision spins out of sight and mind.

Its also got pretty nifty third party messaging as the Bard sings to it.
