View Full Version : So, where are they coming from?

It honestly seems like at least once every few days someone announces they've "been away a long time." Anyone else notice this? I don't remember it happening a year ago.
I KNOW Simu has crap for advertising, so maybe it's a collective unconscious thing. That's my only explanation.

I think people just go through phases... they play GS for a couple of years, then EQ, then back to GS, then to WoW, then to GS, then to WoW-BC, then Gs, etc... something along those lines.

I guess so. I was doing that for a while myself.
They just seem to be converging all at once.

I've noticed that people are just now coming back after not playing for x years consistently for as long as I played.

I take long breaks. Depends on my mood, my monetary priorities, and time constraints. I have no money and no time, so no GS. I do very much enjoy it, albiet rather casually. Rada made around level 40 in the past, what, 7 or so years? I played on AOL, though, like most did, then found GS again- played in middle school, then got back into it in high school. Made Rada in January of 2000, I believe. Had a couple other characters in Middle school. Lost one to the void- went demonic- in the ants nest in the Wehnimer's catacombs. Was none too pleased then.

Oops?
I'm assuming it was a lowbie though?
I kind of miss the demonic. It was always kind of funny watching repeated death messages from the same person and then that last "XxX has been lost to the demonic" message. I always wondered what prompted it.

5 years (I think?) in EQ, in an awesome raiding guild that broke up due to the release of WOW... moved to WOW for with a couple of friends, and discovered that there were more arseholes I could deal with there, even on an RP server. Got nostalgic, and the hubby and I came back, happy as can be. ;) My imagination is better than any graphic.

I think Gemstone's population is set at 600 for the forseeable future. This is including MA'ers and I have no idea how many of these folks are around exactly.

its always been like that. I'll play for a year then quit for year etc. I know right now im not playing b/c i have been way to busy and the xbox 360 has been alot more fun then GS. Im sure i will go back to GS i the future. Doesn't everyone do that though?
I liked when you could go demonic, kind of added a little more excitement to dying. When my character was little there was huge invasion in the landing that was inside the town, I remember hiding at a table for like three days cause I couldn't go outside cause I had no deeds lol. Pain in the ass but was kinda exciting.

It's probably somewhere along the same lines of the same person having a "leaving the lands" sale 3 dozen times over a year or two (Aquamarine comes to mind). Or the same furniture store having a "going out of business sale" every 3 months.

Which is better advertisement, sadly, than anything else so far...

Actually, I believe Simu does two forms of advertising for GS....Solomon said they do Google Adwords, which I've seen a couple of times, and I know they do marketing campaigns to old unsubscribed players via email whenever there's a major release. I suspect they did one for Alchemy.
Could they do more? Sure. But they do advertise.

I haven't seen any...
They should get an ad at penny-arcade or something. Or some MUD site. Something, at least.
