View Full Version : Simu: De facto approval of multi-accounting

I was perusing the release notes for the new SGE beta and found this bit inside. Simu has generally avoided actually approving of multi-accounting it seems but this is about as close as an official approval as I've seen in print:

o Added multi account support(up to 10 accounts)

Meh, multi-accounting and festivals pay the bills.

Yeah, I was just interested in the official nature of this, everyone except a few die-hard people who hate MAing has known that Simu approves of it. I guess this is more de jure approval, whereas is was de facto before.

Meh, multi-accounting and festivals pay the bills.

That is a very, very short-sighted assumption.

There are more people that have quit the game, or at least stopped going to festivals, than multi-accounts floating around.

So? Doesn't mean they don't like the extra revenue they get from multi-accounters

Actually, the assumption is correct. The short-sightedness is on the side of Simutronics for allowing it to go on as they have.

If they are bothered to integrate MAing into their game launcher then it most definetly is serious business for these folks. Although I know Simu is a business I wonder how many people they lose (and can potentially gain back) because of the whole "I'm a 19th century Industrialist F*ck I care if your kids starve because I pay you slave wages give me my money!" The 30 bucks I pay for the game is a pittance but it's very souring when I pay it to some drooling douche going "Money, money, money!"

On the one hand yeah it sucks when your in a room with 20 avatars and 10 people waiting on a spinner.

Then I look at that person and realize he/she spends $$ more on Gemstone per month let alone per ticketed event(and often per silver/high end item) than I do on strippers and blow.

There's a certain amount of satisfaction (and often penicillin) associated with that thought. I get a bit frustrated af first glance, but then the thought sinks in and I giggle and go on about my merry way.

Your money your world, the rules suck but the idea of restrictions to the lesser of two evils more so. Banning MA accounts at this point would only further diminish the player base. It's little gain, for more pain with a niche group I'd rather have around to make fun of anyway.

It gets to be a slippery slope as well, I'm reminded of a peekaay mud where strict rp and player interactions were enforced (spellcheck has ruined many an education). If the ops thought you were communicating through external means or 'perma-grouping' you got banned.

What is the "support" for multiple accounts? Is it just that it remembers which character you were last logged in/your password for multiple accounts? If so I think it's not so much an endorsement of MAing as it is a natural annoance for people who see multiple accounts used at a single computer despite possibly not multi-accounting.

If two people shared a computer, with seperate accounts they could get the benefit of this addition. I concede that that's rarer than an MAer, but it's not like this was really that big of a stretch to make the SGE support it (don't all GMs/GHs use multiple accounts? They added explicit GM features to the SGE as well)

Avalon for Mac (I know, Macs, what horrors) allow you to save information for multiple accounts. I personally only have one but my husband has an account too so if I needed to log into his account for something, or vise versa, it's easy to do and I don't have to yell for him to give me his password.

ROFL. GP.

GP = Good post.

It took you longer to post the translation than it would've had you just typed it out.

And it wasn't a good post. It was lame.

Feeling a little sour about how much you spend?

On what? Blow, strippers, or multi accounting? Nada, zip, zilch.

I spend it all on shoes.

That's even worse cause you can only wear one pair of shoes at a time. At least if you're MA'ing you can get all your money's worth at once.

Hmm. So someone would have to have two computers (IP addresses) in order to sign in two chars at the same time?

No. The characters only need to be from different accounts for it to work.

You can have dozens of characters logged on provided they're all from different accounts.

Since EG I've always been able to sign in my account and hubby's at the same time if I needed to. Even our utility account if really need be. The only issue I have with it is bandwidth going "OMG NO!" and shutting one of them down.

Multi-accounting also refers to across games. If you have an account with a subscription to GS4, and it also has a subscription to DR, you cannot run both games at once, however if you get a secondary account with a new name, with the MA support, you can.

Ergo separate accounts, regardless of characters or game.
