For the past 12 years, GemStone has been a part of my life, as a player and eventually as a staff member. Almost six of those years ago, I was asked to manage the GameHost program. I was SO nervous the first night I was introduced at a host meeting. I was just fresh off the GM turnip farm at the time, and could barely type a SEND without sheer panic setting in that I might break something, or accidentally type a systemwide announcement instead. Oops?

So, it was with a lot of sadness when I wrote to the hosts earlier tonight to tell them that the time has come for me to allow someone else to fill the shoes that I've enjoyed so much over the years. I'm very proud of our little host family, they've been an amazingly fun crew to work with and given me a LOT of happy memories and lasting friendships. Even though I know you can't post here guys, I just wanted to say THANK YOU from my heart. It's been a privilege. And to Zyllah and Isten -- you're the best. We make a great team.

To all of the players that gave my merchants lots of laughs, giggles and memories -- Winna, Nele, Essa, Delsy and the gang send their heartfelt thanks. :) It's been a blast. And to all of my friends that I've met and cherished along the way, I can't imagine what life would be like without you (you know who you are darnit!).

Paradigms shift, life changes, and sometimes you have to allow the journey to take you elsewhere. GemStone will always be a part of me because of the relationships that were formed along the way -- wherever I go, I'll take those with me for a lifetime.

What a long, strange trip it's been.

Gemstone has needed a fresh breath of air for a long time. Nothing personal against Siani or any of the other GMs leaving but personally I'm glad theres now room for new blood to move up and maybe something innovative or new might happen instead of the same rinse/repeat.

Fact is, there really isn't people that would want to move up and the talent pool is beginning to dry up. Without GMs you can't have a game... I really do think GS is -really- dying this time, you may deny it but most of you that do are selling silvers anyhow so you're kinda biased imho.

Eh, I'm sure as soon as these 4 or 5 people quit, 70 applications for GM were submitted, especially in light of the post about how they were hiring, a short time back.

I think the fact that foreign doctors who've practiced for years have to automatically go through residency all over again is pretty indicative of how a person can't simply just set up shop here with a foreign degree.

The fact is, this shit is straight up bullocks, young son.

I honestly believe being a GameMaster for that amount of time deserves its own special category of work break, which is also what made Siani so good :-\

I *hope* (and believe) that in addition to an upcoming posting of what particular GM positions are filled, that there is no unreasonable haste to hire. And that the same set of rigorous standards Solomon had discussed are that much more evident for those 10x newly-filled mithril workboots.

Fact is.. it took me all of 30 seconds to do a search. Fact is.. it took me a grand total of 10 minutes to make that post. Fact is.. I had to wait 20 minutes to have a cleaner work on my truck.. so I had plenty of time.
