"Due to Simutronics's decision to fire GM Khaladon (as well as several snipes to Plat in the same stroke), I have chosen to no longer support Gemstone, until the situation is rectified to my satisfaction. Sadly, visual foraging is one way I add to the community, and though I truly hate to, I feel that I have to take it down.
This is something I and others (the vast majority of the Platinum community in part) feel very strongly about. I, along with well over 30 others today, have canceled all my accounts with Simutronics. I urge you all to do the same if you believe Khal was fired unjustly (and it's pretty obvious from staff posts that he was in fact fired, though unjustly we cannot know, since no information is being given). Alternatively, I urge you to contact gemstone feedback and express your concerns there.
I am truly sorry to take away this resource from you guys. I really appreciate all the work everyone has put into it. I very much hope that the situation will be resolved enough so that I can turn it back on as soon as possible. [emp. mine]
- Greminty"Is not Greminty practically doing the same thing that was just done to Khaladon? All these people who have contributed to the site by investing time and resources are suddenly without the aid of the site, because something doesn’t go Greminty's way. Is that not what Simutronics just did to Khaladon? He did something that was contrary to their policy, so they fired him a.k.a. took him away. I just find the modest correlation a little amusing. I also find it a slap in the face to those who helped build the site’s informational data.

Greminty is protesting her/his disagreement with Simutronics’ action by removing the usability of the site. Simutronics protested its disagreement with Khaladon over his actions by removing him from GemStone, which obviously affects Greminty.

I’m glad I saved a map of each herb etc. found in OTF.

Again, I just find Greminty's actions a little amusing.

Although it was a community project, all (most) of the info was contributed by users. Greminity can still take it down if he/she wants to but it does kind of suck for all the people who helped.

Hopefully, no other sites will follow suit. If playershops, or Krakiipedia (No, I don't know the owner's stances on the issue) were to close, it would be a real blow to most people's enjoyment/ease of use of the game.

Fortunately, with a little help from my friends, I have become a foraging ninja.

Like, all I have to do now is just will garden herbs and they sprout out of the ground for my AG bounty.

During the butterfly festival, there was a contest to forage for herbs within 24hrs for a special cross-realm pin ( It's 1x a month pin for everybody after the contest). During that 24hr period, all the images in the visual foraging site were down (x) but the website was still up. All the images were fine after that 24hr period. I wondered if simu asked him to take them down, or he took them down to gain an advantage, or it was down for technical problems.

I don't require an answer really; I just thought of it after reading the initial post.

This is much worse to me than Khaladon getting the boot. I mean, I have printed copies of all the town and hunting area maps, but that does nothing for foraging. Trying to find anything by 'climate' alone is a serious time sink. The collective knowledge of other foragers in this regard was invaluable to me.

I'm really screwed, and I'm sure I'm not alone. :(

Isn't it rather pompous to shut down a site that was benefiting the community over a decision that was not made by the community? I can understand why they are upset if they are losing a favorite GM. I can't see why they would take down their sites. It's only hurting the players that put their time and effort into it and the ones that find it useful. Simu doesn't care. I think a better way of protesting could be found.

Ugh, for all we know Khaladon quit, or SIMU and Khal came to a mutual agreement that there would be no way to reconcile their positions.

Anyone else notice how...astoundingly reactionary a particular segment of GS (i.e. most of us) is? Sometimes I wanna scream.

NOT that I am not upset about losing Khal/Paul. He's a great guy, and from what I've heard of the situation I frankly don't blame him for his opinion on the matter, even if I don't think posting on the officials about it was the best decision (it also, was by no means a horrible decision in many regards).

But damn.
