So today we played the team at the top of the table. We were second.
It was going to be a hard game. We drew 1-1 with them away last year and at home they destroyed us with only 9 players. We know they are a hard team to play and we had been humiliated last season, so really had to work at it.
Everyone was pumped up before the game (by that I mean everyone was psyched, not that we were playing with inflatable players...because that would just be odd). Nervous, but really hungry for it.
When we started, we were all over them. Completely pinned them back for most of the half, but against the run of play with their first and only real attack they had had up until that point, they scored. I was a little pissed off with myself...might have been able to do a little more but misjudged the goal and the shot and it sneaked in. In times gone past, that would have been the cue for our heads to go down and us to get arsey, but we didnt.
A couple of our key players took knocks, our centre forward pulled up with a possible hamstring, but refused to go off and our central defended hurt her back. Still they both played on and about halfway through the first half we drew level with our one-gelled (not really) centre forward with a sublime move that could have been premiership football.
1-1 at half time, we came out for the second half firing on all cylinders. We trounced them. They (the team that was unbeaten before today and were top of the league) hardly got a look in. We put three more past them to leapfrog over them and take up top spot in the league.
The future's bright...the future's blue, with dark blue shorts and socks.
So good to win and deserve it.
