Am considering a fixskills to turn my old 40th level sorcerer into a picker, and am wondering how effective a non-rogue picker can be.

If he doubled perception, picking, and traps, and only trained 400-list spells (if this would even help his lore bonuses), what types of boxes could he expect to pick at 40th?

My hope is that he'd be able to open more difficult boxes than just like-level.

Pretty bad idea IMO... Why would you do it?

But honestly it would depend more on the creature than just the level, as some have easy boxs, and some have hard boxs.

Plus you cannot double disarming as a sorcerer. So your pretty much screwed on getting like level traps disarmed. Lucky if you get 50% of them. Like maybe, possibly up to -200 traps. If your lucky. Depends on your DEX too.

Thanks - sounds like a bad idea after all.

Yeah don't count on always getting like level boxes, especially once you get into the higher levels. Lore will help, but seeing as you can't double train for traps, you'll have to seek out help for those anyway.

You could trade your 40 sorc to someone for a 30 rogue, and be 3x better off. Specially if said rogue had LM mastered.

I dont see why you couldnt disarm them with your disarm spell then pick them.

Several traps don't take to 408.

Plus that means you are leaving out enruned and mithril.

Using magical means of opening boxs 407, 408, or 125 all have their uses, but also some things just won't work with them.

Your sorcerer would be better off using 40 ranks in disarming, and 80 ranks in perception to FIND the traps, then if its safe enough for whatever reason, and isn't enruned, or mithril use 125.

125 would more often than not be cheaper on mana than 408/407 would be as it normally takes several casts of each.

Phase it, it resists, it's a glyph trap. 125 all the rest, barring mithril and enruned of course.
