Anyone else get pissed off when people use the excuse of you being on the ground to kill something in the room?

I don't see why they would do that rather than just pull you up, or ASK if you need help.

And he finishes off the thing even after he knows I am alright.

I was almost as pissed as when the last idiot I ran into here was running around letting them cast clouds and not taking care of them.

If I see someone stunned/prone in the temple it's probably bad news all around for them so I immediately 1011 the room.

At least that way I don't kill the creature and wait for the person to recover. I generally offer to port them back if they can't.

I think in higher level hunting areas it's alright to start rocking out with your cock out if another character looks to be in trouble.

That guy walked in and attacked after you stood up which means you had recovered and he was trigger happy. That's my take on it.

yeah higher level hunting areas are more of a problem, more Cmans and what not

But this is a low level place, I don't get hit, unless I am encumbered and have this happen:

A storm giant takes a deep breath, opens its mouth and blows a forceful gust of air at you!
You are struck by a forceful blast of wind!
The blast of wind picks you up and blows you south!
[Upper Trollfang, Sentoph]
A huge monolith soars to the sky, its peak pointed like a tooth. As tall as it is, it's dwarfed by the summit of Sentoph, yet a few hundred yards over your head. It's large enough, however, to force you to climb a ways upslope to get around it. You also see a reinforced shield.
Obvious paths: north, southwest, northwest
... 25 points of damage!
Strong blow to your left leg breaks it!
You are knocked to the ground!
You are stunned for 5 rounds!
Roundtime: 3 sec.

It is difficult to move quickly at all, and your legs are strained with the effort of carrying all that stuff. You can probably manage to trudge around town, but hunting would be treacherous.

You feel less drained.

In the tool satchel you see an engraved steel chest, a plain steel box, an iron-bound haon trunk, a scratched monir chest, an engraved iron box, a badly damaged gold trunk, an enruned thanot chest, a scratched gold trunk and a red drake war hammer.

Even thats not a death sentence for me. If I were to have been stunned, and he could not unstun me, and wanted to attack something I wouldn't see it as bad...

I usually try to pull them up, and if I can't get them on their feet in 3 tries or so I just kill the thing. Asking and waiting for a response of "You ok?" can lead to even more bad news, like a maneuver attack on you pwning your face or something before they respond.

Drew

Yeah, I'm not risking my character's ass so that you don't lose ~100 exp. I kill them first, then pull you up if you're still down. This is for anything with cmans or deadly spells, so arch wights, or illoke. But if you are down in kobolds, I'll pull you up.

If I walk in on someone down, I do try to pull them up and then immobilize the creatures in the room. This might be done by casting minor sanctuary, mass calm, 706, song of peace, depending on what character I'm playing. There are so many ways to immobilize creatures (stunning, sancting, calming, etc.) without resorting to killing someone else's prey that I don't think it's ever acceptable to just waltz in and start swinging without being asked for help. Just my two cents.

I used to leg everything in the room, give the fella a a chance for revenge when he got up

When people fly into wind wraiths, I usually PROTECT them with my manly, text-based and classically chiseled husk.

If a wind wraith enters the room, I also use my unfathomably masculine WTRICK FEINT to buy them time, without actually having to damage their critter.

Eh, I think you're overreacting for someone stopping to help you. Had you been lying there and/or stunned and just walked away and not helped at all, you probably would have been pissed off with that too. At least once he realized you were okay he stopped and didn't even search anything else.

Yeah I modified my post a little. I still think it wasn't that big of a deal.

Its not that big of a deal, but its still bad. Poor form and all that.

It was obvious I stood up right as he walked into the room. He even nods at one point, figuring I am OK.. but keeps swinging and searchs it.

And in that area, its really really common to be knocked on the ground, if you can't handle that you shouldn't be there. Its like hunting the krolvin warfarers with ewave, you dont just go around killing things because someone is on the ground.

edit - I was also a bit pissed off because it was crowded just before this happened.. Had several people there, some of whom probably shouldn't have been. There was a noted cleric there, who is at least rift age - and that again I think is poor form to be farming someones hunting ground when you know theres people who can and are getting exp from the things.

This is because your parents didn't teach you that violence is the solution. Shame on them.

Once your ass is on the ground, you're the prey. Anything is fair game. If you don't like someone trying to help you, then tough luck.

I mostly only get annoyed when that happens when the person uses an open spell that targets non-group members as well as critters.. like implosions.

And of course after you've been ripped to shreds and possibly lost a crap load of arrows and daggers, you get a tiny "Oops." It's happened to me a couple times.. "LOL LET ME HALP U!" *implosion that explodes you* "OOPS."

These people fail Gemstone.

Drew
10-02-2007, 02:42 AM
Also, if it bugs you, you could just tell people you don't want them to help you so that it doesn't happen. I wouldn't mind someone saying that to me, I do mind someone telling me how I should best help them.

Amber
10-02-2007, 03:52 AM
I think the whole point of the post though, is that someone was helping him when he obviously didn't need help, not him being upset at how that help was rendered. He'd never asked for help, never been asked if he wanted help. He was up, ready for another go, but the other guy went ahead and finished them off.

Drew
10-02-2007, 05:08 AM
I'm not arguing that the guy should have killed his critter, I'm just saying I'm not gonna risk my tail ascertaining if you want to be helped off the ground, out of a stun, whatever. I'm gonna do my best to disable or dispatch the critter to make sure you are safe. If the guy doesn't want me to do that, I won't in the future. My point is that saving you 100 exp is never crossing my character's mind, nor am I going to have him stand around and wait for you to respond if you want help.

At least in a tough area - kobolds, lesser orcs, troll kings, anything I can turtle in is another story.
